so i recently for the first time ever downloaded a game from a site, there are about 59 files (100 megs each) and there all compressed, i use winrar, and i chose the option "extract to saints row/", this just combine all the files into one compressed file, now here's the problem when it gets up to 4 giga bites it says "disk cannot contain file over 4 gigs", how can i fixes this All files on WD PASSPORT, the disk hass 22 gigs free any help would be appreciated
Ah, an old favourite. The drive is formatted with the FAT32 filesystem, which does not allow file sizes over 4 GB. You could convert it to NTFS, using a Windows XP tool. http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.php http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=t...&hl=en&safe=off&q=convert+fat32+to+ntfs&meta=
Know that i know: that you can do what this guy said which works or, you can back up your drive, then (i use mcafee shred36, comes with all mcafee products) earse your drive completey, not just delete all files on it. and when you insert the drive again try and open it and windows will prompt you to format it, and done.
you could have skipped the erase part, and just formatted the disk, and saved a lot of time. The data is gone when you format. (unless you are paranoid about the police or RIAA) Also, it's FAT32, not FAT36 like in your title.
