have some footage from my son's high school football games i would like to take small clips from and upload it to web sites like youtube. Originally filmed on 8mm tape then converted to dvd through a toshiba dvd recorder and would appreciate some info on format and the appropriate tool to upload to teh web.

    thanks.

For youtube I think it basically just needs to be less than 100MB's. No matter what it is going to get re-encoded anyway via I guess ffmpeg which accepts most stuff as input. Probably best to resize to 320x240 or whatever they use though. Also resample the audio to 22.1KHz mono (once again if that is what they use). Then I guess just something like high bitrate MPEG-4 video and 320k mp3 audio.
