    seedb,
    Here's a guide.
Why are you burning at such a very slow rate? If you have good media i.e. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or even Sony burn at 8X. If not, burn at 4X.
If your media is DVD-R, tick this box. To do so, go to Settings and then burning. This will burn the project at once instead of packet writing--burning in small increments.

well i don't really know what you can see there as i'm hopeless trying to read log files but basically i burn at 1x always with dvds because my computer is like 8 years old! =P

just to clarify - nothing wrong with my burns ever. my plextor is a dream with TY media! :)

the problem i am having is that when i go to set up the dvd (menus/chapters etc.) I can't really do a thing because the preview window is blank.

can't see what my menu would look like and can't watch the video at all to add chapters etc.

    thanks mucho

    seedyb,
I don't understand the whole logic about burning a very dependable media at 1X. I understand your computer is old, but if your burner is capable of burning at multiple rates it's pointless to burn at this speed. Well, that's your prerogative. Here's how to enable preview on CX2DVD...

[IMG] Did you attempt to follow the guide?

well...i've done tons of reading on how to backup dvds, make xbox backups etc. and i've read many many times that if your pc is slow and old that burning at 1x should yield your best rate of success.

    hey i can't complain as i don't think i've ever burned a coaster! :)

.....defly hit the preview button 42 times since i started trying to use this program. read tons of tutorials....researched my problem as much as possible before posting.

i really try not to be one of those people that get the response "read the faqs before posting" lol!!!! ;)

thanks much for your thoughts thus far peeps
    greatly appreciated
    keep em coming! :)

ConvertX is not meant to do any editing. Chapters are added based on time intervals, not specific places.

As far as solutions try a complete uninstall (followed by CCleaner), then reinstall the latest version.

i mean i know that it's def not meant for heavy editing

i do know however that you can put a chapter wherever you would like - doesn't have to be intervals if you choose not

mainly that and being able to view/edit my menus is what i'm getting at

thanks much for the advice - i'll give it a whirl!

You should open your own thread, not hijack others...:)

Here is, 3 free programs for you:
You can use DVD Flick, a very good free program:

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/552742

Any_Video_Converter is free also . Here is the link. Make sure you get the right download
    http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ for the website

direct link download http://www.any-video-converter.com/any-video-converter-free.exe the download link

You can also use Super , also a free converter. Super allows more options then AVC, like the output size and codecs used. http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html New users might find Super "too complicated". Is not really. I would start with DVD Flick.
    ...and burn with Nero.

    seedyb,
Could you provide some screenshots to better highligth the problems you're experiencing? Problems such as the ones you're having can be easily dealt with by a mere unistallation/reinstallation of the most recent version.

i can try when i get home though i don't know what i can show you.
the preview window is simply all black all the time. doesn't matter whether i'm chosing the mpeg file or the menu etc.

sadly i uninstalled my version and installed the newest and got no new developments from that

thanks for your attention - i'm near the point of giving up and just accepting that my menus will always look like garbage and my chapter markers out of place!

    Hi All,

I am new to this... Please help...
I have some 84 wmv files which i want on one single video DVD.
I tried using DVD Flick and i am facing the following problems,,,
1.) I cant add more than 64 titles to my DVD... any way out in which i can add all 84..
2.) The DVD burnt by the DVD flick is not playing on my DVD player(Phillips)

I thot it wud be a good idea not to waste my blank DVD discs and instead creat an ISO image for testing which i can mount on my virtual drive to test on Power DVD (Disc Mode_) but its giving an internal error
I tried Nero to burn the files created by DVD flick... It says require Video_TS.BUP not found...
Sometimes it says DVD Compliance test failed...

I just want all the 84 files on one single DVD which can be played on my DVD player....

    Please help..

Always start your own thread, what you are doing is hijacking another's. And this one is about a blank preview screen which appears to be totally unrelated to your post.

Have you tried any other programs? If ConvertX isn't working for you go with DVD Flick as it's a very similiar program, with the same features and lay out. IMO, it gives you much better quality as you can manually set your bitrate settings to whatever you like to squeeze as much quality as possible into every DVD.

    Give it a shot.
Super is another good freeware app., supports heaps of formats, and a lot more options/config settings.

    thanks a lot for those

i'm at the point of giving up and just accepting i'll never have proper chapters or nice menus!

i've tried countless software and methods to get a tivo file onto DVD and this one finally gave me fairly good results

i suppose i have one or two more attempts left in me!

Tivo files are problematic to being with, their not like AVI files, they normally have encryption and many programs don't support them.

If I were you I would convert my Tivo files to MPEG first and then burn to DVD, that'll likely give you less errors/problems.
    Try this guide: http://www.dvd-ripping.biz/tivo-to-dvd.html

no doubt amir - that's the steps i'm already taking though i do believe convertX to dvd can handle .tivo files on it's own.

it's really annoying that tivo makes this so hard.
they had that partnership with cloneCD or whatever burning software that was supposed to handle and burn tivo files on the fly but my impression from the forums is that it was total garbage.
    thanks alot tivo!!! =P
