I used simpledivx to convert a dvd movie into divx format. When i open up the movie, my divx program starts playing it. When I put it on the usb stick and into my dvd player, it only has the title menu. Anyone know why? I've played divx movies on my dvd player through the USB in the past.

Did i convert to divx wrong? It does have the .avi extension that i converted it to which is still divx.

    Suggestions?

    Examples of two avi files.
One created using the DivX codec the other using XviD.
    Some standalone players are fussy.
Compare a working file with the one that doesn't.
    Change FourCC code if required.
Note upper and lower case usage.

If the FourCC code on video that doesn't work is different from the ones on the videos which do work, then change it and try playing it on the standalone.

i put in my converted dvd to divx(avi) into this program and it says:

    FourCC Description Code: divx
    FourCC Used Code: DX50

I played other files with the same description with success but not the converted file.

    Any other ideas?

Have you used that converter program before ok?
Check the resolution of the AVI - I believe the maximum is 720 x 576 (you can drag the file into MediaInfo to get that information).

I would use AutoGK to do the conversion from DVD to AVI.
Run AutoGK and select VTS_01_0.IFO (that's usually the main movie)from the VIDEO_TS folder as the source.
Select 'Target Quality', 'Add Job' and 'Start'.

I was using AutoGK to convert this movie. It was my first time and i used the guide to the dot. Here is my result actually when i try to play it on the dvd player. i put the 3hour converted dvd on my flash drive and plug it into the dvd player. when i choose to play it, nothing happens. with other videos if i ever had problems, it would say either no sound or no audio. with this one, nothing. does not even seem like its loading and it just has the dvd player's splash background. No black screen.

If I was doing it from scratch, I would:

Rip the DVD using DVDFab HD Decrypter (free version).

    Clean the rip using FixVTS

Open the ripped VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Shrink and click 'Re-author'.

Each episode can now be picked out on the right side of the pane and dragged to the left.
Note the running time of each 'Title' and figure out which ones are episodes.
Click on the 'Compression Settings' tab.
Set 'Compression' to 'No compression' (since this is not being burned to a disk).
Click 'Backup' and output to a new folder.

Each episode is now a separate Title and the titles can be opened individually and batch processed from AutoGK.
    Separate Titles assigned:
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_02_0.IFO
    Etc,
You would open the first Title (VTS_01_0.IFO), choose it's settings and add it to the job queue ('Add job').
Repeat for each Title then 'Start'.
