Follow up to the previous post. mp3po Pro is not really profitable for me at all, and I mostly do updates to accomplish my own wishes. I am always open to suggestions and will consider them all carefully and implement as time and my day job allows. Audiobooks really are a hobby for me.
Just a little hint for those wanting to know about Goldwave and why sometimes it doesn't work. "Goldwave will not work unless you have installed the audible codec for windows media", The key is that codec. I'd like to thank Bill again for introducing me to this forumn. It's nice to communicate with fellow hobbyists about these things.
Well if you want us to test it for you, I would be willing to do that and send you my suggesions about your program. Just let me know. LOL Marilene
Phenner, I wish I could do that, but at 34.95 bucks a pop, somehow it doesn't seem worth it. LOL. I am working a legal issue with my attorney, whereby ONLY those with legitimate codecs from audible would be able to use the software in this fashion. I would then add the DRM back to the resultant mp3, wma files. I hope I can find a work around, because for legitimate audible listeners, it makes a lot of sense to be able to burn a whole book onto a single cd. I have had much more value and pleasure in my own listening by using this method.
If anyone could email me a copy of Riverpast Audio converter 5 or 5.1, I'd be forever grateful. I can buy my own serial number. Thanks!! === anesthesia2000 "at" earthlink.net ===
Don't mess around with the River software, Goldwave is best, and of course to put in a plug for myself, combined with mp3po, now that's a winning combination!
5.1.3 is still available at download.com it is the trial and you will need to register it to covert more than 2 minutes. good luck
What MP3 settings are you guys using? I'm seeing the mp3 size being 5 times that as the Audible file size. Thanks.
Cludwig, you're not seeing 5 times the size with Goldwave are you? If so something is seriously wrong, typically what you will see with mp3 is roughly the same size or a bit smaller.
I have mine set on 96 I think thats like fm quality. Unless its a dramatic audio with alot of background sounds regular books don't need to be the highest. IMHO
mode 4 audible is 11khz 32kbit IIRC so yeah 22 of 44khz 96kbit might be 5 times as large. Chris Taylor http://www.multipodaction.com/
It's the Opie and Anthony Show from XM Radio... Audible is only charing $9.99 for a years worth of the show and I love it. Think its a mistake, suppose to be $70 but they give a $60 discount without saying why. I guess I should keep it at the higher level since there is a lot of background noise... music, sound bits, etc. I'll try some of the lower levels you guys mentioned to see if I can hear the difference. When I record the show myself it takes up that much space but sounds much richer. Thanks so much for the replies, this one thread is awesome!
I have RiverPast 5.0 and I have the full version I want to convert .aa to mp3 I click on Add and Double-click on the proper file. I then get a popup from RiverPast that says: The following files do not contain recognizable audio: [The file that I wanted to convert] I don't know why its doing that....any help would be greatly appreciated and yes I am trying to Add .aa files
stoneweed, do you have audible manage installed? Do you own the file, because if you not then the Audible plugin is not started and is not able to decode the file. The Goldwave program actually only saves you time converting the file instead of listening to the whole lenght and the record it with a program like total recorder which captures you sound card. You definetly need the rights to listen the .aa file in order to convert it with Goldwave. Jordan
I downloaded River Past Audio Converter 5.1.3 from download.com but I get an error message stating that the audible file "does not contain recognizable audio." Has anyone been successful converting audible to mp3 using this version? I used to own 5.1.1 and it worked perfect, but I lost it by accident when I changed computers (and the company will not send me that version, just the new one). If anyone has version 5.1.1, please e-mail me. Thanks.
Yeah if you don't own the file, don't even waste your time. I can confirm that the latest version of Goldwave will work with this.
As a reminder for those who may have not noticed this in a prior post. I have been doing this for a few years, and I am an avid reader of this forum. The most painless / best combination I have found is Goldwave and mp3po Pro.
Hi! After all of the helpful leads I found here, I thought I'd send off a quick guide to how it seems to work for me - forgive me if it's all been said, exactly the same way, but I didn't find it (with exact details) anyplace in a cursory search of the forum: First off, you have to have Windows Media Player - I think I have v9...if you can't get your audible files to play in WMP, you have to go to audible.com and get the file that enables WMP to play the files. The description of the enabling file indicates that it's for STREAMING files to WMP, but it's also for playing non-streaming downloaded ones. Secondly, I find that Goldwave works darn near perfectly - as long as you work with it *just* right. Oh, and don't close ANY windows or boxes, once you open them, until your conversion is complete. Okay - here's how it seems to work best for me: 1. Double click your .aa file and wait for WMP to open. When it does, and you hear the "This is Audible" tag at the beginning, click on the stop button IMMEDIATELY. Do NOT close the window - just minimize it. In addition to WMP opening, a little box that says "Section Navigation" should have opened along with it. Ignore it. 2. Open Goldwave - click FILE, select BATCH CONVERSION, and in file types choose "all file types"...bring up the .aa file you want to convert, and double click it. I think mp3 format is the default for the convert-to choices - make sure it is, and select your destination folder where you want to save the new mp3. 3. Click the convert button, and it should start...and ANOTHER "Section Navigation" box will appear on top - leave it there (yes, now you have two of them open...your taskbar should show 4 items open, in this order: WMP, Section Navigation, Goldwave, Section Navigation). 4. The deflashing will (should!) continue to 99% with no trouble (so far, on the one occasion that it stopped before 99 for me, I re-booted and everything worked fine). ANYWAY, it gets to 99% and STOPS - don't panic! Do you see that "Section Navigation" box in the foreground? There are two buttons on the bottom part - click the right one once, and click the left one once. Goldwave should IMMEDIATELY show 100% deflashed, and switch to the converting and saving box...the converting and saving takes FOREVER, but at the end you will have one certified "regular" mp3. After it's done, you can close up all the boxes and windows. 5. Now that you've tweaked it all up, please be responsible and don't copy and share it! I'd prefer that my advice here wasn't responsible for proving Audible correct in its assumptions about the dishonesty of its subscribers! As far as chopping up the mp3 goes, I tend to use a freeware program called mp3 direct cut - documentation sucks, and it's a lot of manual work, but free is free...and it takes up practically NO system resources whatsoever! If anybody is actually interested and not scared by the idea of chopping manually, I'd be happy to create a kind of a "how to" for it. -Cootie.
Well, mp3po is next to free and it puts overlaps on the segments during splitting. You really should give it a shot.
