Converting AVI to MPEG

    hi there. i have a few downloads from ares, and i wanted to convert the avi files into vcd. i was told to use tmpgenc to concert to a mpeg, but when i browse for a video file and pick one of my AVI files which work on WMP 10, it comes up saying cannot open or unsupported. i am new to this so i am not sure what to do from here.. any suggestions

    use the software called HTMPEGencoder

    I've tried both TMPGenc and HTMPEGencoder and got nothing out of both. I recommend WinAVI, you will need the full version or you'll end up with green lines in your movie.

    no, use tmpeg but make sure you have a divx codec or xvid, whatever the case might be. wm 10 might play it but you still need the codec for it to encode!

    Can Anyone help

    i have a few avi files that i want to convert to dvd. i have been using tmpgenc plus 2.5 sucessfully with some of them, but with others when i get to page 4 of the wizard the file is to large to encode and the prog will not let me downsize it.

    any ideas would be appreciated ?????
