How the hell do I convert dvr-ms files to regular mpeg2? I found one program from deskshare called digital media converter that worked, but it took FOREVER and $40 for one movie I want to burn just isn't worth it. Anyone know some alternatives? Also, if it matters, this file was made on MCE 2004.

A possible workaround, load the file in windows movie maker, save as DV-AVI. Then encode to mpeg-2.
It's also supposed that XP with SP2, and Nerovision Express can do it.
Cyberlink Powerproducer can do the conversion, not cheap.
Try DVR-Edit from http://www.greenbutton.com supposedly free, not sure how it works.
Arcsoft's Showbiz can handle dvr-ms. Not cheap.
This will make .wmv files from your dvr-ms: http://www.nacontap.com/dvr2wmvrc3.cfm
Mediaportal claims to do it as well, best of all, it's free. http://nolanparty.com/mediaportal.sourceforge.net/
