goes anyone know if the EBOX uses the same bins as the viewsat? EBOX is not on the toolbar, and the retailer says that the ebox mimicis the same as viewsat extreme. the ebox apache is the same as vs ultra. any truth to this?

Does the viewsat extreme require the same cable as the CS5000 to upload bin files? Thanks in advance.

All truth. The ebox is the VS clone. Ebox mimic is the VS extreme clone.

VS uses rs232 straight cable and CS uses a null modem cable, i believe.

That's backwards - CS straight and VS null

Breck is right, we have ben having a time on at bindepot getting some people to not use the cs cable on a vs. vs are null and cs are straight, not interchangeable.

Just some of the newer models can use the flash drive. All of them still can use the cable if needed, as far as I know.

What cable do I use for my FTA receiver?

Want to know what cable you need to flash that shiny, new receiver ? There are two types of cables used, and both look the same on the outside, but are wired differently internally. They are the straight DB9 RS232 female to female cable, and the Null 9 pin RS232 female to female cable. The straight DB9 cable has all pins connected the same at both ends(pin 1-1, 2-2,3-3,etc.). The Null cable(also known as a Null-Modem) has pins 2 and 3 crossed(pin 2-3, 3-2). You can use a straight DB9 cable to program receivers requiring a Null cable, by purchasing an inexpensive Null adapter to attach to one end of the straight DB9 cable. This allows one cable to be used for any receiver. This is the list of some popular receivers with the type of cable to use

*Ariza Ultra 400/500- Null modem cable
    *Astrovox 2600-Straight through DB9
*Blackbird and all Blackbird clones(BOB, Max 1000, Stealth II. MS1000, ,etc.)- Null cable

wow for 25 bucks you could have gotten a new lnb or 4x4 switch, 4x1 are generally between 5-8 dollars and Chieta 10-15 depending on where you go.
