I have a question on the Coolsat 5000. Has anyone ever used the card reader?

Well, since Blank says that those are the ones that go through the house's electrical wiring, those are the ones that seem to work well from what I read. I did both of mine the old fashioned way, hardwired. If you need or prefer wireless, go with Blank's recommendation.

If you pull down on the right hand side of the cs5k it has a slot for a card reader, maybe for plastic?

The only time I used the card reader was through a test with my wife's 97W Globecast sub card. It worked.

Isnt that a dummy slot? You actually have to buy the card reader and attach it inside the stb?

on my 5000 it's not a dummy slot and with the current bins the slot is activated, but it doesn't work with anything that will let you get DN or B3V, for sure, take my word for it.

I would stay away from the cards personally, then you have D* property and thats alot different than a working bin

no, and don't mess with it, especially since the new B3V, coming soon, cards currently can't be reprogrammed, stick with what we know works now and should work, hopefully, after the swap.
