Coolsat 5000 Questions PART 2

My dn is going out every 5 min too. i've trie auto roll on and off with no success

I live in a city of about 40,000 people and I had trouble finding a cable as well. All the "big box" stores (future shop, walmart, circut city) only have female/male. I located a small computer repair business who sold satellite systems such as vs, nf, and Coolsats. Fortunately he sold me a cable for $10 and I was on my way. My only suggestion is to phone small cpu places and ask if they have any rs232 modem cables. Good luck!

 

Bev seems to be scrambling much more frequently and for longer periods now. Started at every 15-25 mins for about 30 secs but is now scrambling every couple mins for 1-2 mins. Is this an indication that we will soon need a new bin?

I am tempted to turn off autoroll and see if it lasts longer that way. Pretty tough to watch hockey and catch every second minute of play. Although i guess that is why there is TSN, can always watch the highlights later.

I'll give that a try too. It is very hard to watch anything when it goes out for just as much as it is working. can't even record on dvr because you get mostly scrambled picture

Since I posted the first message on previous page my tv has not gone out??? I did nothing different. I cant figure it out.

I did turn off all auto rolls and it has not gone out since my last post either

 

I had to buy a gender changing adapter for my usb to rs232 cord at
Radio Shack

 

Well it was an interesting theory but it just scrambled for about 10 secs with the auto roll off and came back by itself still with the auto roll off?

 

Well now its back to scrambling every couple of minutes. I thought that if the auto roll was off it shouldnt come back but it keeps coming back after about 10 seconds. Is anybody else watching with the auto roll off on bev?

 

turning autoroll off didn't work for me either.

 

Lets face it everyone. The only good fix for this problem will be a new bin when they get around to it. Norw was pretty fast with the last 2 bin files but don't seem too worried about the glitch. To keep up with the big dogs they are going to need to fix problems fast also.

just got home from work. I see that nothing has changed. I also tried turning the ar off and its still scrambling every 10-20 minutes. does anyone have any suggestions besides turning on and off the ar. at this point i'll try anything to get my tv back:-(

 

Hey Jerry. I am not complaining about the auto roll. I can live with it for as long as i have to because i understand what i got when i bought it. It is just my cuiosity now. Why is my sat coming back when the auto roll is off? Just wondering if somebody could either correct my understanding of the auto roll or tell me why it is rolling even though the auto roll is off on all sats

 

I'm not a code writer so this is just a guess. The auto roll feature if working right should find the new key numbers when necessary and input them. My guess is that the glitch in the bin has the auto roll working in strange ways and may still be active part way even if turned off. It must be working somewhat for you guys to have video, but doesn't work fast enough to roll new keys properly. One of my Viewsat bins had that problem some time ago, so it would black for about a minute everytime the keys changed. The difference being that Viewsat fixed it in about 24 hrs. Thats what I mean by saying Norw needs to take care of you Coolsat owners. I also know the Norw coders are a new bunch and learning the process but they need to keep at it or they could end up on the bottom of the pile.

Thanks Jerry. I will just turn the AR back on and wait for the coders to fix the problem. i got my cable back last week so i am not without tv. I undersatnd that these problems are the price we pay for getting FREE TV. Thanks again for the explaination.
