You got the wrong cable - take it back to radio shack and tell them you need the 9-pin end that is the opposite connection.

Yes - you can ground it on the copper pipe, but make sure the pipe itself is grounded outside before it enters back inside the house. I wouldn't consider the water main going under ground as a great ground, but it is grounded. It is always best to put a rod in the ground and use it. The rod and the grounded switch should be as close together as possible. So if the copper pipe on the roof goes down the ouside of the house, it should be grounded before it goes back into the house. Lightning is electricity and wants to travel the shortest route. Since the copper pipe goes back inside the house, you want to ground it outside. You don't want to allow the jolt to enter the house and zap you pouring a glass of water.

LOL i was thinking the same thing. As long as the copper pipe stays outside your OK, nothing in the house or your dog might become a hotdog....lol

You are right.electric current follows the pass of less resistance.I clamped it to the tubing that feed the water heater that comes directly from the water company main, that feed the solar collector. So it is a strait pass to ground and the ground is pretty humid so it makes the soil more conductive. The house actually have 2 ground rods. 1 from the telephone company and 1 for the electrical system of the house itself. I can run an extra conductor as a double insuranse and at the same time increase the capacity of the grounding.I think I will do that.
More inputs will be apreciated...thanks a lot.

I HAVE A QUESTION I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP WITH . I HAVE COOLSAT 5000 WITH TWO DISHES , ONE FOR DISH NET AND ONE FOR BEV. MY PROBLEM IS THE OTHER DAY ON MY DISH NET STOPPED GETTING A SIGNAL . I CAN SWITCH TO BEV AND IT WORKS PERFECT , BUT WHEN I CHANGE OVER TO DISH I GET NO SIGNAL AT ALL. THE WAY I HAVE IT SET UP IS I HAVE TWO SEPERATE DISH IN MY YARD AND I JUST UNPLUG ONE ON THE BACK OF MY COOLSAT AND HOOK THE OTHER ONE UP WHEN I WANT TO CHANGE PROVIDERS. BOTH WAS WORKING PERFECT YESTERDAY THEN WE HAD A LITTLE STORM COME THROUGH AND DISH NET STOPPED WORKING . I CHECKED THE SAT SETTINGS ON MY ANTENNA AND MY CONECTIONS EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD . ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ?

Well if you had a storm, the obvious questions would be:

Have you checked to see if the sat moved? May need tuning in again.
Is the LNB broken or look like there is any water in it?
    Are your connections all tight?
    Is the wire damaged?

Just some where to start. If it was working before the storm, then it would more likely be a hardware issue outside.

Use the toolbar I created. It has about 7 sites to get them from.

Exactly what Breck said but my first question is why do you plug and unplug coax cables, do you know if you do that when the stb is on you just shorted out your lnbs yourself. Your stb powers your lnbs. A solution is to obviously first find out if you fried your DN lnb's, then hook all 4 to a 4x1 DiSEqC switch 119-1 110-2 91-3 and 82-4, if your lnbs are dual you can hook up a 2nd receiver to same set-up

You can use the toolbar below to get keys and bins.
Gives you 7 sites for keys and gives quick links to any files you need.
Have to register to access bindepot.ca
Many of the people here are members and sharing the bins with each other.
This site doesn't allow posting files.

As suggested by Breck and Blank, you have several ways to get keys. Bindepot, the FTA toolbar and if you want another choice there is TVKEYZ site. All 3 links are under my Eagle icon on my signature. Have fun.
