    Hello everybody,

I am trying to make a back up of a back up. When I choose Copy Disc I get an error. Here is what is says.

"Nero initialization failed because of inconsistent DLLs (5)!"

If anybody knows what this is please help.

I am using Nero 6 memorex suite. You know the bundle you get when you purchase the burner.

My plan was to uninstall and reinstall the Nero software. But I'm afriad the DLLs have nothing to do with the Software.

Also, I do have Roxio 5 installed in my computer. Which I can afford to uninstall if highly recommended. Thanks in advance.

DLL files are part of the program files. If the application says that they are inconsistent, this means they are either missing or corrutp. What you want to do is reinstall the software. You can trust me on this.

    Hi sdlr
I would try the reinstall 1st.
Do a clean install of Nero - uninstall - run the clean tool.
If you have InCD installed also (will be listed separately in add/remove programs) uninstall that too and run the InCD clean tool.
Reboot. Run a registry cleaner like the free ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options.

    Now install Nero again.

Install the latest version of package 1 - link.
Use this link get package 2 (recode, vision etc.) package 2 link

Ok, I did everything as plan. I do not get the DLL problem anymore which is good. Except I am still have a problem. It seems Nero can't pick up my reading drive. (Drive E:) It does show my Burner.
I actually would like to see Nero pick up both drives. Like it use too.

I think it is a Driver problem but I am not sure. I am getting no indication of that in Device Manager.

After installation of Nero I had a reboot problem. During the Windows XP loading screen the computer freeze. I held the power button on the case to turn it off and rebooted to last known good configuration.
I wonder if this has anything to do with what is going on.

    It could.
Whens the last time you did a virus scan?
I would run one of those then scan w/ Trend Micros House Call to be on the safe side.

Try uninstalling this drive in device manager and rebooting letting windows it thing and reinstall.
Right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager.
Click the + next to dvd/cd drives - right click on the drive in question and pick uninstall. Reboot.

I have not try the above post suggestions yet. Just wanted to add that I had DVD Shrink install in my computer where Nero would autoburn. I believe I had WMP11 working the same way.

I uninstall DVDshrink because I had to many decoding programs in my computer. The problems with Nero began shortly after that.

    So I have 2 questions.

Is there a DVDshrink cleaning tool like Neros?

Is there a restore default settings option in Windows Media Player.

TO restore any software caches, just uninstall it, and go to the program save file. Then delete the remaining files. CCleaner aka Crap Cleaner will take care of these bits on its own though.

Which ones are showing as corrupted?

ASPI's are not needed by most programs except for some of the older ones. Though when installed if one or more is corrupt the can cause problems.
Nero uses it's own in Nero 6 - if it's that one you can get it from Nero website. If not there's also Adaptec you can download.

Ok, here is what's going on. I just reinstalled my OS. Everything is working fine so far.
I need to know why my DVDrom will not read burned dvd's. DVD-R. I never had a problem with this before. It has no problem reading original copies. I get a corrupted DVD error or Different format error. What do you think this is?

How old is the dvd-rom? Make and model of it? A firmware update may help if one is available.

You're ok on the system aspi showing not installed. Nothing to worry about there.

    Your the man binkie7,

Firmware update did the trick. Release date 5/15/2003.

Liteon DVD-ROM LTD163 has a firmware update only for Dell computers.

I flashed this update today and it worked. The Drive is now reading my burn copies on memorex media. You know, the cheap stuff.

    Thanks for your help.

BTW, since I reinstalled the OS, I decided not to install Roxio software. Everything is working fine without it.
