If you try to use the backup Max Drive Pro disc on an unmodified Gamecube, it won't boot. It's a backup. It doesn't matter what's ON the disc, it will not boot in an unmodified system. That's the point people are trying to make.

You could have a million backups, but if you're trying to use them to boot someone else's gamecube, it won't work.

OK Since you won't listen to reason just take my word for it: A backup of an MDPro disc is the most worthless thing. THere is no point whatsoever in backing it up.

A backed up version of MDPro disc will not load on your kids' friends' gamecube! Only the original one will? And you alrdy have a modchip which, if stopped working, your backup would be useless again?

So your kids friends can't use the backup and you can't use it. Why waste a minidvd?

Ok. I get it. That was the whole reason for me getting the MDP. So I can play backups. A backup will not play backups. Right.

no no man, a GC cant read copied games unless u use a Mod-chip. in this case you wanted to make a back-up of the disc and give it to your kids. it wont work becuase certine sectors of the disc are unreadable/unburnable by a burner, so it wont be able to burn them making the disc unreadable by the GC. It won't boot them without those sectors present. also the GC has failsafes against copies, int his case its the Barcode. the disc needs this to boot games. if you have a mod-chip(overrides the reader settings on the GC) or some way to get around this (like GCOS), they wont work other wise.

when you copy a game the barcode is not copied, thats were a mod-chip or the SD card app. GCOS come in. they override the GC settinga and allow bootlegs/back-ups to boot.

So can I use GCOS .dol on a memory card to boot my backups? What is the procedure to booting up backups using GCOS? I have GCOS 1.5 on a momory card but I don't know how to start.

Not without an original copy of MaxDrive Pro, or some other original-press disc that lets you load files off a memory card. The gamecube itself has no way, at all, of booting files from the memory card.

I wasn't asking to boot the backup from backed up .iso of MDP but if I cam but directly from the Freeloader or any other .dol file like that is on the memory card. Why can't boot from the memory card?

If you have a disc that lets you boot from your memory card, then yes. If you just want to turn an unmodified system on with the memory card in and a backup disc of any sort, not a chance. The system does NOT boot ANY files from the memory card, by design. It takes additional software, such as the MDP disc, to do so.

Yeah, people need to upload more saves there.
My original Max Drive GC disk gives DREs so I can't transfer the saves yet. Zombie-Check your PM.

I gave up on trying to make the original Max Drive Disk work. I tried it on another cube and same DRE. Tried cleaning it and same error. There is a point of having a backup. If anyone can help me out, it would be appreciated. I want to transfer some saves. To use gcs, I'd have to get PSO and an official card. Thanks.

bring the disc to a CDMAX store and they can repair it so it'll work. i've done this a dozen times and fixed all DRE's. The repair is only 3 bucks.

I've brought it to 2 GameStops and their fixes didn't work. I have a feeling that it not scratched and just doesn't work. It doesn't look that bad. Datel's customer service is horrible.
