Hey there, first post here lets hope its a good one :p

I'm a fairly knowledgeable person when it comes to burning DVD in all formats however I’m trying to make some back up's of my DVD's all my old ones went smoothly as ever using old faithful 'DVD Shrink' However some of my newer DVD's 'Layer Cake' and 'Jimmy Carr Stand Up' I’m having a few problems with. So i guess my best bet was to try some different software, so i fired up Nero hoping to find the answer to my problem. Nero however told me that the disk was Copy-Protected and could not be burnt. What to do.. What to do..

So i started Google’ in as you do search for ways around it and this is where i came to :p

I found a nice topic which i thought was going to solve my problems,
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/105641

I started following ScubaPete's very in depth post. But i came across a few problems.

As my DVD's are analyzing I get the following error message,
    [IMG]

Anyone know any solutions or ways around/or to stop this.

    Hope you lot can help,
    Thanking you in advance,
    Regards, Steve :)

use dvdfabdecrypter to rip and then use shrink of nero recode to compress. the new version of anydvd works good with shrink and nero too, but its not free. u should be able to find dvdfab at dvdidle.com

Why look for another way when gamename gave you the easiest way? Try his advice.

DVDFab Decrypter and AnyDVD are excellent tools to get past the newer ARcoSS protected discs that Shrink and DVD Decrypter can't handle. The forum link you posted is 18 months old, useless info against ARcoSS.

I agree with the 2 of the above replies. DVDFAB Decrypter is one of the best FREE ripper at the moment (from the author aka Fengtao of DVDIdle Pro, DVD Region+Free CSS and DVDFAB Platinum). DVDFAB Decrypter updates regularly so it can handles any new encrypted protections from RipGuard or ARccOS.

Unless you're an advanced user(s) and or interested in DVD Decrypter + PgcEdit + PSL plugins + FixVTS, then of course, this method is another flawless method to rip and backup any movies/dvds (new released or old). Possibly one of the best method ever to rip any dvds, regardless if it has RipGuard or ARccOS protections whatsoever.

Or if you want to try out AnyDVD (a great cracking engine running in the background), AnyDVD is pretty well known to most members and or here at AD. However, AnyDVD is NOT free, but it has a 21 free trial. Personally, I would choose DVDFAB Decrypter, DVD Decrypter + PSL plugins, VobBlanker and FixVTS because these are some of the BEST FREE tools available. However, the choice is your.

For more info on how to use DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker or DVD Decrypter + PSL plugins + FixVTS, click on those 2 bold links under my sig. or click on my name and have a quick read/look at the blogs.

    Good luck!!

    @linda12

My first reply should covered pretty much everything, but since you requested some free tools that does the same thing as AnyDVD, then read here.

If all you're looking for is/are some free ripping and backing up tools, then get these freewares below. Yes, sometimes some free tools are indeed the best.

<1> DVDFAB Decrypter (one of the best ripper at the moment)
<2> VobBlanker (one of the best invalid data structures or dummy cells processing tool, it can easily blank out any unwanted junks "i.e. fbi warnings, previews/trailers, commentary, etc.")
<3> FixVTS (another awesome invalid data structures or dummy cells processing tool)
<4> DVD Decrypter (a ripper and burning engine)
<5> ImgBurn (a burning engine "for ISO image" from LUK, the author of DVD Decrypter)
<6> DVD Shrink (a transcoder/compresser engine, also a ripper for older movies)

Here are 2 free methods that will work 100% on any movies/dvds (new released or old), yes I GUARANTEE YOU that it will work 100% if done/followed precisely. I wrote those 2 guides for Newbies or those that are interested or those that don't have the latest from AnyDVD.

IMPORTANT: I advise you or anyone to TURN OFF AnyDVD, DVD43 or other cracking engines that's running in the background, if you're going with these 2 free route. It's for the best... because if you had AnyDVD, DVD43 or other similar cracking engines running in the background, then you are likely to end up with some kind of errors, and or it will conflict one another only.

    <><> Method 1 (DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker) <><>

<1> rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter (get the latest available)
<2> process the VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlanker (only 5 - 10 minutes to "process & correct" all dummy cells or invalid data structures, etc.)
<3> DVD Shrink to transcode your VIDEO_TS file created from VobBlanker as normal via Open Files
<4> burn your final ISO image with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn

    <><> Method 2 (PgcEdit + DVD Decrypter + PSL plugins + FixVTS) <><>

<1> PgcEdit to rip & re-rip the movie from scratch using DVD Decrypter with the help from PSL plugins/file
<2> FixVTS to process and filter out any left over craps, junks or bad sectors, etc.
<3> DVD Shrink to transcode/compress as normal
<4> burn your final ISO image with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn

The only different for my guide is that I used Nero Recoded 2 with "AA + HQSR" or sometimes DVD Rebuilder Pro + CCE SP instead of DVD Shrink. You can use DVD Shrink all you want (it's free). However, I highly recommend using "DA + AEC (max sharpness or max smoothness) though, this will produces better quality in results.

For more info, just click on those 2 bold links under my sig. or click on my name and just take a quick look/read at my blogs.

Best of lucks to all and happy burning!!
