hi saugman. we buy some religous dvd's from catholic company and the format is DVD-R so I find them easy to copy. I put the original, which I purchased, in my pc drive and a blank disc in my burner and use Roxio Easy Media Creator and just click burn. Because I'm not really a technically clued up guy so what I would like to do is exactly the same procedure even if I use different software. I have downloaded Anydvd and will download DVD Fab (it has a screen I like: source drive, target drive, click burn). If that doesn't work I'll try all the other solutions that you guys have been good enough to give to me. I'm 57 so I want to keep it simple.
if u have a dvd rom and a burner it is fine to use the rom to read and the burner to burn. i was just trying to keep things simple until u get the hang of it.
fab decrypter is nice and easy but it will not compress or burn. sorry but i forgot to tell u that u will need nero or dvd decrypter for a burn engine if u use shrink
thanks to all. I think today will be a day of experimenting. I'll get back later and let you know what worked and what didn't. here its 9.22am Tuesday.
Thistle48. Ok now we know those are backups that you are successfully copying using the copy disc feature of roxio as well as a dvd-rom drive and dvd-rw drive. Original movies: I rarely use dvd decrypter. Now with anydvd running in the background: I use dvd shrink for most of my backups. It's very simple, once you try it a few times. You've got to have that program anyways if you are compressing the data from dvd-9 to blank dvd-5.I do use nero 6,oem version to auto burn after dvd shrink get through encoding.Dvd decrypter's burn engine also works with dvd shrink. Click on aabbccdd's post with the bbmayo guide. On those smaller dvd-5 original dvds, use dvd decrypter in: Mode iso read and Mode iso write. No compression,so you can also do backup copies using this same method. Those larger dvd-9's will have to be compressed with dvd shrink so you'll have to use file mode.
Well I'm not having too much success. I have successfully backed up a dvd using DVDShrink but now I'm stuck. I have tried to use DVDFab, Roxio, and Iomega but all of them ask me to choose a file. I go to the file created by DVDShrink but it won't open in any of the burn software. It only opens in DVDShrink. Any thoughts as to how I can burn the dvd?
hi saugmon. I want to download Nero for a trial but at the download page it asks download to server 1 or server 2. I don't have a server. I only have my own computer. What do I click?
Thistle, if you dont want to use Nero, simply use Decrypter to burn. After you hit backup using Shrink, the option will come to selct where there output files go. Select ISo and burn with DVD Decrypter.
Hi DVDback23. I did what you suggested. Backup done and DVD Decrypter activated but when I put a blank dvd-R in the drive I just get the message "device not ready (medium not present)". What now?
This may sound dumb, but make sure the DVD is empty and that you are putting in your DVD burner only, not any other drive. Good luck!
The DVD-R disc is an empty disc (I tried several new ones) and I have tried my pc drive as the target drive and also an external one as the target drive but both with the same results. Earlier in the day I did a normal copy/burn of a DVD-R to DVD-R using the same drives and that worked okay.
make sure dvd decrypter is set on iso write ,also you can JUST use dvd decrypter and skip dvd shrink ,open decrypter click mode go to iso read let decrypter do its job it will kick out the disc when its read ,stick in a blank click mode again go to iso write select the RIGHT file and burn very easy to use .if you need step by step view use this guide it has all the programs we talked about here in http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html it shows you how to use CloneDVD 2 with anydvd in this guide also which is a very easy combo to use
aabbccdd, I went to your website and printed the guide "Backing up your DVD with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink". The guide is excellent. However my end result was a failure. I foolowed everything exactly all the way through to Step 44. After completeing the encoding I was expecting (as per the guide) the small DVD Decrypter box showing Operation Successfully Completed. However when the encding finished DVD Decrypter loaded and the window showing the source and destination. At the bottom of the box was the message Device Not Ready (No Reference Position Found). I didn't know what to do so I closed the box. I tried to view the disc but there doesn't appear to be anything on it!
did you change it to ISO WRITE in decrypter? before you put in the blank dvd also what kind of blank media are you using we in here use Taiyo Yuden ,Verbatim or Ritek and burn at 4X max.
Yes, the ISO was set to write. The blank discs I use are Sony DVD-R, 120 mins, 4.7GB, burn at 8x max.
when you had it iso write did you click the green arrow to burn? slow your burn speed down to 4X also
The green arrow was not active. However today I went out and bought lower speed discs and I managed to burn the dvd successfully. Can you tell me why 4x max. works when 8x max. doesn't? Also while I remember, what is the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R and how do I know if my equipment can use both or not. Currently I only use DVD-R discs.
need to know the make and model of your drive to tell you if it's compatible with BOTH dvd-r and dvd+r formats thistle48, most likely your firmware is stock from the manufacturer, so you will need to update your firmware on your burner once we find out what KIND of burner you have...it's a learning process..but, be patient...you will soon be burning like a pro~ reason why your burner is burning @4x, but NOT @8x is probably due to the fact your firmware is not up to date to RECOGNIZE the faster media~ this will be resolved once you update the firmware once again... good luck
thistle48 we will get you there man in do time the dvd-r and dvd+r are just different formats most newer burner support both and there really NO quality difference between the two formats you just need to find out which one works best with your PC,standalone dvd player etc. you can booktype the dvd+r to dvd-rom that makes them the most compatable with standalone player but we can get into that later after you get the burning prossess down get your firmware up to date and i would still burn at 4x to be on the safe side for now heres a firmware link http://www.firmware.fr.st/
