I want to copy my home movie which is on DVD to
mini dv by using panasonic cam recorder.

    I have Mac G4 and panasonic pvgs500.
I bought a firewire but my computer Mac G4 is not registering
    or recognizing panasonic cam recorder.

    Please help!

wait, you want to copy from dvd *back onto* minidv? normally, it's the other way around.

i'm not sure of any way to do this. with the old mini-vhs tape, you could pop them into a vhs converte case and play/record them in your vcr. there might possibly be a similar product for minidv, but i doubt it. unless someone has a pretty ingenius idea, i'd say you're S.O.L. on that one.

There is a pretty simple way to do that and is not an ingenious idea ;-)
Use this tutorial to convert your DVD movie to DV-AVI:
    http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/tutorials/dvdedit.php
Next take the DV-AVI and record it to your camcorder over Firewire using a program that can do that (e.g MovieMaker or WinDV).

    EDIT:
Oops, I see that you are on MAC. The above programs are Windows based. I don't know of a program for MAC that does the conversion, but maybe you can import MPEG-2 in iMovie and export it as DV-AVI?

Read your manual for your digi-corder-camera. It should have a section on how to record from a DVD player to camera. if not then use the 1-800 number and ask panasonic. you may not even have to use the Mac.
