I've been making backup copies of my dvds for some time now with an older version of DVDXCOPY Xpress. Only now, since Napoleon Dynamite and Collateral came out, it seems all my movies gets errors in the sectors every time I try... So basically, can someone explain to me what's been going on with the copy protection? Is something new out? How would I go about copying, let's say, Collateral the proper way? Thanks for any/all help.

That software sucks. I know, I tried it ages ago. Problem is, it can't keep up with the times. You're in luck though. All your ripping and burning needs can be met with two freeware progies. Follow the link for a guide and links to download the two apps:

By "my guide", I just meant the guide that I always post a link to. Actually, it's digidragon's quide, and I didn't mean to take cedit for it. I just think its the clearest DVD9 to DVDr guide available.

Anyways, I'm just always laughing, because of the many times we've answered this question, and each time, whoever gets there first, posts one of those two links. So it's like we're archrivals.

Ok, I'm admittedly very bored, and drunk right now. :D

But heed my works bbmayo. I will destroy you. :D I am only 6 posts away from being a senior member, and when that day comes, well, then...um, you'll rue the day. :D lol
