I've have a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1712, and its been fine ever since I had it, but recently its started giving me errors during the burn. I use Nero, and it seems to only occur when I burn in DVD format. Ive burnt numerous Audio CD's and they work fine, but I get this error "Could not perform End of Disc-atOnce" for quite some time, but just today I started getting "Could not perform EndSession". This only seems to happen in DVD mode, Im trying to burn a Duke Nukem alpha ISO for my XBOX, and when I put in the errored DVDRW into my PC, a window opens up containing all of the files, yet my XBOX cant read it. Ive launched other ISO's and media from my XBOX from burnt images and such before off of this dvd burner, but lately it refuses to. I have no idea why, so, any help?

How long have you had your burner? Did you just recently make any changes to your system? Hardware additions or software changes?

[edit] Maybe you should check out this thread too: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/123312

hmm... I got my burner Christmas of '03, and I havent made any hardware changes since, software changes...I'm installing/uninstalling programs constantly, as well as games. I cant really think of any that would have significance, except I uninstalled Norton Antivirus and installed Sygate. Thats it, though. And another thing I just discovered, is that it seems to be ok with burning DVD UDF/ISO. If I try opening an image and burning, I get an error, I also get an error with Alcohol 120% when attempting to do the same thing. But UDF/ISO is fine, ISO makes an error, I havent tried UDF, so, Im not really sure what it is.

and squizz, that link u posted, thats how I originally found this site in the first place, and I cant seem to get any help out of it, considering just about every one in the forum took that opertunity to post his/her problems. Thats why I made this thread, so I could get my own personal assistance.

    My 2 cents worth:

    Focus or tracking error

All signs point to burner problems. Try a bit of compressed canned air and see if that helps.

Also try a simulated burn. If the problem is laser specific then your simulation should complete without errors.

BTW Mac, You need to edit out your Nero Serial Number...The number at the top that starts with 1a25

    Cheers,
    Frank

oh, right, that is my serial, not a good idea to post that...and um, about my burner..uh..heh...

But it works, I haven't had any trouble with it (besides this). However, I wouldnt be supprized if it got dust in there, so Ill give that a check too. Its not in there correctly because my case didnt come with any extra drive rails (its dumb that is takes rails instead of screws), and I havent been able to find any.

I can't do a simulation. I dont know why, but the simulation option is shaded.

Nice pic of the computer! Depending on how cock-eyed the burner is sitting, gravity might possible have some kind of effect on it maybe? Just a thought.

lol thanks, I took that pic with a video camera and then transfered the still over to the PC, so thats why the quality is crappy. I dont have an actual digital camera. Anyways, I believe that dust is probably the problem, that front is wide open to any airborne particles, so tomorrow Im getting some of that aerosol canned air stuff, and Ill clean it out.

Ok, Im going out now to run some errands and pick up the can. However, one thing Id like to point out is that my burner DOES burn CD's (Audio, Data, etc), and it does DVD ISO/UDF. But whenever I do DVD ISO (or DVD Image's) It gives me the error stated in my log.

DVD Burners need to be attached firmly to the frame of your computer! There is a lot of mechanical action going on in there.
That laser has to burn a pit in a groove on the disc. Any odd torques being induced by the motor/drive assembly may be flexing things a bit. Causing the laser to miss the groove.

really? hmm. I will see ifI can level it out a bit, but keep in mind I said that it CAN burn other formats, just not DVD ISO. It does all the others. I tried cleaning it with the air stuff and it still doesnt work. This is really frusterating because I cant burn the images I have.

Burning a DVD requires the laser to hold much closer tolerances than burning a CD. The grooves on a DVD are a lot narrower.

A tracking or focus error is a problem with the burner itself.
