ok here's the deal.....i softmodded my xbox, complete retail, but, i did not backup anything (c drive, eeprom, etc.), so i got the error screen with no numbers after i renamed xboxdash.xbe to something else, (i still dont know why i did this). so i used xboxhdm and tried to get to the hard drive to rename the file, it was a no go, so i looked around and found that i could unlock the drive by using a firmware upgrade to unlock it, so i did it, went back into xboxhdm and renamed the file and relocked the drive with another password... i plugged it in and went to boot it and yet again i get the xbox screen but no microsoft at the bottom.....so now i unlocked the drive again and rebuilt the hd from scratch with the msdashboard download i saw on the forums, tried it again and it was a no go, so now my xbox sits unlocked and i was wondering where can i go from here? would i need to get a modchip to fix it? i can get another xbox for cheap now, would i be better off just to get a fresh xbox and starting over and not being a tard this time? any help would be greatly appreciated if i could salvage this thing, thanks in advance for any help!!!

Honestly, I would think that getting a new Xbox would be your best bet at this point. It sounds to me like you have no way of getting the eeprom file onto the hard drive and you HAVE to have that file so the motherboard in your box will open the drive for you when you start your console. Getting a mod chip can be expensive and can be a bad thing in the end if you don't know what you are doing. If you can get another box for cheap... I would do that. Just remember to backup EVERYTHING once you apply the mod. Then FTP to your Xbox and copy over the C and E drives as well as the eeprom file and hard drive password files. Once you have done that, use xboxhdm to create a recovery CD for your hard drive and keep that in a safe place.

IF you'll go back and use the EEPROM from the backup folder that came off YOUR box to lock the drive, it'll work. you can reset the 'Master' ATA password on the drive, but not the 'User' which is your EEPROM and the only one your box knows
