cpu coolers

    my local shop is telling me a zalman 9500 willfit my am2 socket the box only specifies socket939 &940 can any one give me some advice

    Socket 940 DOES NOT equal Socket AM2. AM2 has 940 pins, but they are laid out differently as it is a different platform.
    The Zalman 9500 is unfortunately not compatible with socket AM2 in the normal version, you need to buy the specific AM2 version (there is one available, it's probably a different colour).

    amen somebody agrees with me it is a totaly different socket and mounting bracket
    beleive it or not my local is a certified amd dealer=freak annd he keeps tlling me to put square peg in a round hole

    What annoy me is that most people think it since most shops haven't realised. One of the UK's biggest component retailers ebuyer labels it as 'socket 940' when it really isn't.
