@ john1690: It could be an issue with your Hard drive. You might want to check if any cables are loose or something was pulled out. @ SR5380: Whenever you access the Task Manager, depending on your CPU speed, it may cause the spike, but if it makes it go back down again, it could be that something in the background is running as well. I would suggest getting: CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/ good for cleaning up junk from various programs Spybot - Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/ Great spyware cleaner Ad-aware SE Personal: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Another remover that catches other adware and spyware Spyware Blaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html Great for preventing most to all spyware, etc. AVG Anti-Virus: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1 A freeware anti-virus software that updates regularly. I know this wasn't to ask about what programs could solve the problem, but they could help. I also like using this program called RAMpage: http://www.jfitz.com/software/RAMpage It's a cool little program that shows you your RAM amount that's free in the Taskbar. It could also be used to free some RAM up if you need it or running low.
