don't know about the speeding up but it does improve your graphics...

so what kind of program that many people never use in Ultimate?...and why Home Premium is better for gamers?

Directx10 offers no speed advantages, but it offers better graphics. Because of that, your games will actually run slower due to the extra things the graphics card has to render. Because you bought an HD3870, when DX10.1 comes out you will be able to run Anti-aliasing on new games, unlike all the 8800 fanboys that rushed out to buy GT cards.... :)

but of course they will. if you set any game on high, and then on low, you will not only see an amazing difference to the graphics but to the FPS aswell. sometimes its the difference between slideshows and smooth play.

    yeah thats the basic...i'm forgot...

having high-end GPU and a low-end CPU...will the game be able to run the game on high and smoothly?

Depends what the low-end CPU is. Any core 2 duo or Pentium E will be ok. A Pentium D won't.

No, absolutely not. If you don't have a decent graphics card, no CPU can pull a decent frame rate.

like my rig...i think the CPU is better than the GPU...or vise versa...

With your PC right now I'd put the GPU above the CPU. Once you upgrade to any dual core though, I'd reverse that.

yeah i gotta agree...my CPU is making my games lagging...and it's slow to be honest...takes forever to load a game...or maybe it's because of my ram...cause my friends 3500+ is pretty fast...and he has 1 Gb of gaming ram...and SLi 6600GT

Probably neither, if you've got the same amount of RAM, the only differences would be the hard disk speed and CPU, the actual speed of the RAM isn't really vastly important. Tidy up your hard drives or buy faster ones!

Yep, certainly Company of Heroes, and Call of Duty 4 will run fine too. What screen resolution do you normally use?

Not to play it, no, but to run it on high settings you would want a decent GPU.
