I have the below Creative Zen player

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000V9IAW0/sh-ne-1254-21

I want to convert my video files for it but do not want to use the enclosed video converter that you get with the player as it takes ages & you have to have the player connected at all times.

I have tried to use Win Avi video converter & A123 Viedo converter but i think i am not using the correct settings as even though i set it to 320 x240 pixels the WMV file that i eventually get will not transfer to the Zen.

    Can anyone please help me.

Either with the correct settings or a better application to use.

    many thanks

    Bart

I use Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum to convert, then use the zen converter to zen converter to load it on the player. It works fine for me.

You don't want to spend $55 on that well known spammers friend software...

avidemux will do the job for free provided you know what output codec and frame size/rate you need apparently xvid @

    Video
    Res - 320x240
    Bitrate - 500 kbps
Framerate - whatever the source is - no need to change - Zen supports up to 30
Profile - Advanced Simple Profile @ Level 5 (lower levels work also)
    No QPEL - required
    No GMC - required

    Audio
Bitrate - between 96 ~ 128 kbps CBR (for file size consideration)
    Sampling Freq. - 22050, 44100, or 48000
Stereo or Mono - same as source

luckily it's a normal looking codec usage not some bizarre M2S4 with reversed streams in an asf container like some of the chipods ;)

Did you not get the software disk with the wmv maker on it?

If you are running Windows, I've put together a batch file that uses MPlayer & Mencoder that works fairly well. You just put your video files in the folder and double click convert.bat. When it's complete, your Zen version of the videos are in the output folder. There's a forum thread on Creative's site explaining everything at:
