There could well be some interference occurring which will be worth checking out, but it could still be the monitor.

Your argument against LCDs is flawed in many places, though. Firstly, there's a difference between reading and knowing - go to a PC component shop and look at proper monitors and you'll see they're nowhere near as bad as LCDs used to be - the black levels are still far from what CRTs can achieve, in practice they don't bother you in the slightest, certainly not for work - they are only a problem when watching films in a dark room - and that's what your TV is for!

Second, LCDs don't need a refresh rate above 60Hz because they don't flicker. Even at 60Hz the picture on an LCD is rock solid, so it doesn't matter what the refresh rate is, it could be thousands as far as a CRT is concerned. LCDs also do not suffer burn in like Plasmas.

There are magnets in AC units.

yeah lcd look great much better fro brighter images and stuff and great for no overscan options i was just saying the black levels where the best on crts. I just dont see the need to upgrade if i leave it turned its fine but i was mostly worried if it could cause long term damge to my crt monitor?

Yes - if it's interferance it could damage the monitor, and if it's a fault, it could get worse.
