I've seen enough posts around here referring to hotswapping, but I haven't seen a good guide. So, without further ado, I present the art of hotswapping.

Why would I want to hotswap?

Two reasons. One is, you tried to do a softmod and fuxed it up, and now your xbox is giving you error 21. This will allow you to install the default MS dashboard files, and repair your box. Second is you don't wanna hack up a controller or buy an action replay, but still want to do a softmod. You can use this to copy the hacked gamesaves to your xbox.

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS HERE, AND HAVE SOME IDEA OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING. FAILURE TO DO THIS COULD RESULT IN A USELESS XBOX.

    You will need:

    Xbox
    Torxx screwdrivers
    a small phillips screwdriver
PC with at least one free slot for a hard drive
FatXExplorer (It's in french, but more stable than xplorer360)
    http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/~xbox/xbox...TXExplorer.zip
    OR
    Xplorer360
    http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/xbox360pc/harddr...rer360beta4.rar

    1. Remove the four feet from the bottom of your xbox. Use the torxx screwdriver to remove the four screws. There are two more in the center, beneath the stickers. Take these out as well.

    2. Take off the top cover. Use your torxx screwdriver to take out the two brass screws that are in the center holding the drive housing down.

    3. Remove the section of casing with the harddrive in it.

    4. Use the phillips screwrdriver to take out the four screws holding the HD in place. (You don't have to do this, but it makes getting at the data cable much easier)

    5. Open up your PC, and make sure that you can plug the a data cable into the HD with the xbox's power cable still attached to the hard drive. Make sure your PC is already booted and logged in.

    6. Now we've got everything ready. Making sure the a/v cable is attached to the xbox and that the power/data cables are hooked up to the hard drive, turn your xbox on. Wait a little bit to make sure the boot process has completed.

    7. Being VERY careful not to jolt or shake the HD too much, disconnect the DATA cable from the harddrive WITHOUT powering off the xbox. Now plug in your PC's data cable.

    8. Run xplorer360. Go to drive->open->harddrive or memcard

    9. Xplorer360 SHOULD read the harddrive. If it doesn't, you may have to go to the device manager and have it scan for changes.

    10. Once you've modified the harddrive as you like, BE SURE TO RECONNECT THE XBOX'S DATA CABLE TO THE HD BEFORE POWERING OFF YOUR XBOX. NOT DOING THIS CAN MAKE THE HD STAY UNLOCKED, WHICH RENDERS IT USELESS FOR YOUR XBOX. DON'T MESSAGE ME SAYING YOU FUXED YOUR BOX UP BY IGNORING THIS STEP.

    11. Provided you didn't delete any important files, you should now be good to go.

    According to the guide.

    - You have a long IDE cable. One end connect to motherboard on PC. The other end is free

    - Open your xbox and free the hdd. So you can easily move it. But hdd is still connect xbox

    - Turn on the xbox, when you see ms logo appear under the big X, quickly remove the IDE cable on xbox hdd and connect the one from computer to it. Xbox still power on.

Not sure if he's fixed this yet but when I done this to mine i had to use a power cable from my pc to power the xbox hard drive or it would not work for some reason. Maybe worth a go.

I'm not good at explaining things but if you have followed that guide above and now have your box ready and your pc ready then here is what I done.

Both are turned off to start with.

I connected a power cable from my pc to the xbox hard drive. Obviously the ide cable was still going from the hard drive to the xbox mother board.

I then powered up my pc but just before it goes through the detecting hard drive stage I pressed 'pause Break' on the keyboard. This stops the pc fully booting up.

Next step was to power on the xbox and just as the logo loads up disconnect the IDE cable. You can now plug the IDE cable from your pc into the xbox hard drive.

Once that is done press 'A' on your keyboard and this should start to boot your computer again. You may need to press it a few times.
This should now boot your pc and when it has logged on to windows you may get a 'detected new hard ware' message(i done mine twice, first time it detected it and second time it did not so its worth carrying on even if it did not detect it)

I then opened up xlorer360 and you should see 5 partitions down the left hand side. You want to put your M$ dash files in partiton 3. then when you put it all back together you can load up splinter cell and the soft mod save and Re do what needs to be done. Forgot to say, that you must put your xbox hard drive back in to the box before switching it off so this can re lock it to your box.

This may take time till you get it right as i spent about 10 hours trying to get mine up and running properly so be patient.
If you still have problems give us a shout

It is very clear details. Hotmod, you should have no problem with this

Anyway, the partition 3 is the C drive. So do you know which partition for the E drive?

No. dont connect to the primary hdd on pc. Connect it to another ide cable which goes to secondary ide port. Jumper on xbox hdd should be master or CS.

    @DaGerMan
what is the error code? if it say 21, 13,14,16, try to do hotswap above.
