    ok so......

    tried messing with the tuner options after pressing the blue button on a channel.

    it was on new so a rescan there made no difference.

    i tried old as you said that works best for you but even after the rescan still got the "this service is not available" message

    finally changed the tuner to alt. and did a rescan with the same results.

    after initially uploading the cables.xml and scanning the channels all worked.

    i only got the "this service is not available" message after i unplugged the laptop from the dreambox.....

    what am i doing wrong ? or what is it i am not doing ?

    i know its only 1 or 2 channels but its just the not being able to solve it factor thats killing me.

    any suggestions gratefully received

    thanks

    the channels i know i cant recieve so far are

    discovery turbo
    living plus 1
    more 4 plus 1

    there is also 1 of the uk gold channels but im not sure which one right now, i am sure there are others too i am just not sure which ones.

    just to clear something.

    i got a new cable.xml file and when i upload that they work fine until i unplug the laptop. i know the xml file is saved because i checked. it must be something to do with the start up thats not finding this xml file.

    i am not sure where to find or even what ber is... the signal is ok because they work before i unplug the laptop and all the other channels are fine. nt hell must have changed something for this group of channels only.

    thanks again for your interest

    mark ..

    Your missing channels are probably
    channel service_id="0516" name="LivingTV+1" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="0517" name="Disc Home & Health" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="0518" name="Bravo +1" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="0519" name="Discovery Kids" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="051a" name="Discovery Turbo" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="051b" name="Racing UK" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="051c" name="Nick Replay" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="051d" name="UKTV Gold +1" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="051e" name="Zee TV" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="0521" name="TVX" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="0529" name="Nick Toons" service_type="01" />

    <channel service_id="03e9" name="The God Channel" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03ea" name="Jetix" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03eb" name="More 4+1" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03ec" name="The Hits" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03ed" name="ABC" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03ee" name="Men & Motors" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03ef" name="Inactive Setanta Golf" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03f0" name="Spare Channel" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03f1" name="Rangers TV" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03f2" name="Celtic TV" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03f3" name="Inactive Setanta Sports 1" service_type="01" />
    <channel service_id="03f4" name="Setanta Sports 2" service_type="01" />

    now on 394 and 402 frequencies. You might be able to edit your cables.xml file and add them in so it will scan for them.

    None of my scans picked them up, I had to add them in. I also made a huge provider file with frequencies, 100, 100.5, 101.....999, 999.5 in it. This will take a few hours to scan but should get them all. The only problem is that it will check say 354.5, before 355, and if 354.5 works at all it will decide to pick it, even if the true broadcast frequency is 355. I had frequencies off by 0.5 before and the picture was jumpy. I dont know if there is a better way to make a cables.xml file, or some way to make sure it only accepts a channel if the signal is strong.

    The file in the link is just my services file which should work for you in dublin without having to scan,it goes in the var/tuxbox/config/zapit folder.

    Hiya Wiz, thanks a million for your help... Unfortunately I'm still missing 80% of channels.

    Would it be possible to share any other relevant files: cables.xml etc??

    Thanks a lot

    Hi Ruprect & Wiz... i manually tried to update the .xml file but guess didnt do it right or something as nothing happened...would it be asking too much if you could provide the cables.xml file that you have created which works.. as after many days at this still have not been successful.
    thanks
