Check first if your sagem has 1 flash chip or 2 flash chips.

    You need a 1x image.
Via ftp and menue flashing should be easier.

He had never heard of these boxes at the time. The basic sub is only €4.50 on top of the neccessary analogue. AFAIK he never has any trouble and is not that computer literate or "techy" so it suits him fine. (he is also getting a dbox2 though!)

I am in south dublin, I tried the "IE bruteforce" scan on my possibly dodgy "tv3box" (sagem 1x) I first tried this with "leave existing bouquet" and fast scan off. Came up with very jittery channels freezing on some for a while and eventually froze on one completely. Tried it again with "create new bouquet". Again it was jittery but didnt freeze on any of the ~20 channels I tried and they did seem a little less jittery. I don't think the changing bouquet should have made a difference but I am experiencing all sorts of odd things so tried it.
Next I did a "cable dublin" with fast scan off, it did this in a matter of seconds and all the channels were perfect! So next I went to the new sagem box, did the "ie bruteforce" with new bouquet and it ended up jittery. Then redid the "cable dublin" and all was perfect again.
In both cases when I did the bruteforce I got 34 transponders, and only 14 with the cables dublin one. I dont know what this means but it still seems to me it might be doing what I suggested before about picking up poor versions of channels and not looking for anymore.
I mentioned that the signal seemed stronger when the coax went via my dvd recorder so tried this but with the same results, so reconnected the old way.
Next I tried the fast scan on IE bruteforce, thinking this might skip over the weak signals I have suggested. Sure enough I only got 26 transponders and all 141 channels.
At first It looked worse than ever but I rebooted (I did in every case) and channels that were previously coming up as errors were now working. The 26 transponders seemed to be better than the 34.
In every single case above the movie channels are mostly fine.
A fast scan with dublin cable only gave me 23 tv channels all grand reception though.
Tried mgb17's UK 6887 and I got 21 transponders on slow scan and all 141 channels, they seemed fine checked about 100 briefly. This was on my tv3box and previously benifa's 6887 scan did not work well (this is listed as "CableUKbSym6887" on the cables.xml file I created).
So I redid the dublin cable 14 transpoder scan.

-all the above happened last week and all week it seemed fine. This is the image I released for benifas site. Then only last night rte and all in that group went jittery again (this was a peak time when it always went wrong, i.e. soap-opera time, I am usually on the movie channels at peak times which always work). This was my "tv3dbox", the other one had fine reception, no jumping. I rebooted several times with no difference. So I rescanned with the uk 6887- all the jittering stopped! Now this morning TV3 was very slightly jumpy, nowhere near as bad as before. I am going to start trying different images now with different scans.

I have played with 3 dboxes so far, and 3 more are in the post. Below is a list of things/tips that have possibly caused changes/problems:
    try fast & slow scan
try ALL service scans- nothing to lose
reboot the PC for connection problems
    change/check ip settings
    cables not seated right
    Your PIN is usually 1111
wrong cable! you need crossovers which are not the standard that you might have lying about.
shutdown background applications via ctrl+alt+del taskmanagerInt
disable other network connections via control panel-network connections
Disconnect the scart lead & coaxial
Dbox should be powered up for FTP (not just the red light, powered up with LCD screen on)
When flashing via IFA when it says power off the dbox it means from the mains, i.e. plug it out
connecting via FTP and trying to do a flash afterwards caused trouble, reboot.
disconnect the power lead to the dbox for 30 seconds for a proper reset/reboot
Passwords for the dbox for sporster are user: root password: Dbox2
To connect to your box with your PC to download stuff etc use http://ip-of-your-box/ (not ftp:// as I was doing!) and if you have no internet connection do not choose to work offline, choose try again.
If you have a sagem 1x german box you are best using IFA to flash on an image, I recommend "pacino sportster 1.7 1x"
If in german press dbox- then select the 4th setting from the bottom and then select netwerk (usually 4) to find/change your IP, my german ones tend to be 198.168.0.24 whereas UK sportster images put on tend to be 198.168.1.151.
if you cannot find the netwerk option press Dbox and try all numbers from 1-9, and press back until you find a page with it selectable, PIN is usually 1111. when connecting using FTP software the first numbers should be the same so try going to control panel-network connections, then right click on the Local Area Newtorl (LAN) connection, pick properties, choose the Internet Protocol (IP) settings and click on properties. click on the choose IP address and it is usually either 198.168.0.1 for a german box or 198.168.1.1 for a flashed box with a UK box.
You should not need to change the IP using IFA but it might have made a difference once for me.

Has anyone got a copy of IFA English?
Would they be able to upload it to upload.sc or similar?
The site http://netwave.redirectme.net/dbox/ that download is broke :(

    Cheers

    Hello Again,

Thanks to the help I got here I set up my Nokia D-Box 2 with Sportster image just by replacing the services file with the one here. I got all the channels and for the most part it works fine but it freezes quite a bit on lots of the channels. Sometimes it freezes completely and I have to restart it?

Is this a common problem and is it likely to be fixed by trying some of the images here? Do any of you have a set up that never freezes?

Incidentally what program do I need to copy the current image on my system or to upload a new one?

I changed the services file just by accessing the box by FTP so I have not done any flashing yet!

Thanks again for all the help.

Mine used to freeze a bit too, and completely hang the odd time, requiring an unplug.
Got a uk 1.08 2X sportster image, and set it up for Dublin using my old 1.7 files. Been running 48 hours now without a freeze/crash. I could upload it somewhere tonight? Or if benifa is still about, maybe he could host it?

Sounds very promising, I look forward to trying it out, thanks!

I'd recommend IFA. Get it here:

Thanks, I've just ordered a crossover cable as I think it's required as opposed to connecting over a router which I'm currently doing.

The software is also complaining about a dual core processor and saying I need to switch it off at the Bios. This sounds a little complicated...

Also how do I copy the image already on my box? The software does not seem to allow that.

Thanks again for all the help,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,

Crossover cable IS required for direct connection from PC to dbox. However, it is not required if you use a router..

    Eg:

    Dbox >>>>>>>>>> PC
    crossover

    or..

    Dbox >>>>>>>>>> router >>>>>>>>>> PC
    patch patch

Either of the above connection examples is fine for IFA, however if you encounter difficulties use a null modem cable in addition..

Never heard of problems with dual core cpus - but then I don't have one myself, sorry I can't help on that mate..

To make a copy of your currently installed image, follow these steps on the remote control:

    dbox>>service>>software update>>expert functions>>read one partition>>without bootloader

You will now have a file called mtd3.img located in the /tmp folder. Simply ftp to this folder and transfer mtd3.img to your PC. For your own memory, rename it to something like "mygoodimage.img" and keep it safe. This is your image and no matter what you do with your dbox, you can always flash this back and your dbox will be exactly the same as it is today..

Thanks for that, very helpful advice.

I'll have a go at trying some other people's images with my box to see if I can solve the freezing problems i've been having.
