I'm trying to decode DVDs with 3 or 4 episodes on them, but they are decoded to sometimes 8 files of about 1 gig each. how do i decode these DVDS so that I can choose to watch each episode later instead of having to run all 8 files and fast forward to the second episode, for instance???

When you do the original backup rip, you need 3 or 4 subdirectories RIP_VOB1, RIP_VOB2, etc or whatever.
You can then select your specific episode hopefully, from chapters, within SmartRipper.
(This works also to split a 3-hour film into two approx 90min chunks, for example.) Is your content not in separate Program Titles as seen from within SmartRipper or whatever you use? If it all just dumps on your HD in VOBs then a careful examination of the chapters and times would be your best solution.
