    sorry if this has been answered, i used search and found nothing of relevance, and couldnt find anything in the guides.

    my problem is:
    i have no idea how to decode XVid's.
    i have the newest ffdshow but in its directory, there is no .exe so im clueless as what to do.

    thanks in advance

    its as simple as downloading the codec and installing it. i like koepi's build (do a google search).

    if the fourCC of the xvid file is set to divx you can change it to xvid with the fourCC changer given. the fourCC is the thing that will designate which codec to decode it.

    if yourve installed ffdshow well thats all there is to it. just open windows media player load ur file into it and you should now have playback of ur xvid file.

    cheerz

    wow, im a dumbass, if thats what decoding means.

    sorry i didnt explain this earlier.
    let me restate it:

    my problem is i have some avi's that are in XVid and when i try to convert them to mpeg(to burn to VCD or SVCD), no converter will let me. im assuming because its in XVid because thats the only conclusion i can come up with.

    any help appreciated, thx

    ok, i tried that guide to convert to svcd and another trying to convert to DVD, but i still get the same error when i select the video file in TMPGEnc
    it says:
    File "C:\*****.avi" can not open, or unsupported.

    what should i do?

    Well you need the XviD codec for XviD manipulation.
