Hey guys just picked up an xps 420 q6600 2.4 with monitor keyboard mouse 3 gigs of ram and win 7 ultimate for 300 bucks. Felt it was a good deal since im upgrading from a 2004 dell p4 3.0ghz.

Anyways i was browsing the net about bumping it from a 2.4ghz to a 3.0ghz by putting a piece of tape over a certain pin on the chip since dells bios is locked. Is this safe to do with the stock power supply of 375? Also most of the tutorials are dead links on how to do this. Anyone can provide me with some good info on this procedure. thx little buddies
    Heres from cpu-z Q6600@2.40ghz Stepping B Revision G0 Chipset X38

Be advised if you do this the BIOS doesn't have any options to increase the voltages, so if the CPU can't handle 3Ghz at stock volts, it isn't going to be stable.
The 375W stock PSU will be ample to handle the increased overclock.
