    Sorry, I don't understand. We're talking about the icons to the right of the start bar...

    I know exactly what you mean and yes you can change that back to the old style so the program names are labelled one more.

    It's finally dawned on me; sorry, been using RC1 all week and it's blocked out all memories of XP already LOL. You mean like this ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/156289/3834176

    I've actually got quite attached to the new layout; i didn't like it first as i couldn't differentiate what was running from what was just a Quick Launch icon. Then my eldest (who'd never seen W7 before!) pointed out that the clue was that the icons that were running were surrounded by a translucent box. Since then i've grown used to it after using it day and night for a week or more and now find XP clumsy and old fashioned whenever i reach over and mess about on the Quad Core machine.

    @ sammorris - There are technically four different styles you can choose from;

    And it shows you a little preview when you hover over a task in any style;

    Yeah Loco showed me RocketDock yesterday, i've also put it on the Q6600 (still on XP), it's a very nice & useful dock.

    The wallpapers are from ~ http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/downloads/ ~ i have about 100odd of them in a folder and W7 just cycles thru them. Nice.
    Just removing W7 off my HP laptop as there's no audio drivers available for it (not even Vista drivers). No biggie, XP going back on now to be dual booted with Puppy Linux 4.20. Plus i'll be installing RocketDOck on XP anyways

    Sounds like your having a good'ol time LOL!

    Am I to understand, windows 7 has yet another skill that XP did/does not have? Heck yah! Just found that ability. Thanks for the post. It might have been weeks or months before I found that :D

    I wonder if you've seen this :D It seems to refresh itself in real time too :)

    Yah, I thought subscribers of this thread might find it useful and interesting :)
    Here's my current favorite wallpaper. I think I got it off interfacelift.

    Shokz: Thanks for that, I will use #2 initially, but #4 may take over afterwards. I'm familiar with the hover-over preview from Vista.
    Creaky: NICE choice. I love Interfacelift. It's one of the few places that caters for 30" users :)
    Omegaman: That was my wallpaper for about 3 months last year :)

    Does anybody know if it's possible to put a different wallpaper on the second screen if you use dual monitors?

    Hmmm...im afraid I never tried that one. And my other Wide monitor went to my sister. Ive been toying with the notion of hooking an other monitor up. But its CRT, and im limited on desk space so :(
    I suppose if Windows 7 can do it, it won't surprise me!

    A couple new pics. And my solution to desktop clutter (Sam's seen my method before) ~

    [IMG]

    [IMG]

    I don't like clutter, i've removed some of my own taskbar icons, i call mine from RocketDock now. For some years now i've had a folder in the Quick Launch area containing all my shortcuts, i can't stand desktop icons, wading thru Start Menu items or tons of icons on the taskbar. I do this across most machines now.
    The folder is now accessible from RocketDock instead of the taskbar, i just click on RocketDock and this folder appears (as you can see i haven't installed all my usual programs in W7 yet) ~
