    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there is a utility to destroy data on a CD-R. I know it cannot be erased as such, but is it possible to write junk over the top to render the data unreadable.

I have to get rid of sensitive data sometimes, and smashing or burning Cds is very messy!

    TIA

lol! Yes, i think that 'utility' would be very effective! But as much as i'd like to see what happens, it's still on the messy side, and burning/melting/exploding Cds give off toxic fumes which might not mix well with my TV dinners!

I'd still like to know if theres a way to get a CD writer to trash a written CD by writing over it.

Thanks for that link. The shredding device only costs $34 at amazon, which is as cheap as any software app. I thought shredding machines cost a fortune. Nice one!
