Dialling tone at the beggining of VHS tapes

    Hi, I know VHS is dead but i am interested to know what that dialing tone noise is at the beggining of vhs tapes? i was thinking it might be some sort of copy protection?

    Anyone know what it is?

    I have never heard what you are describeing...
    The Only Copy protection on VHS tapes is Macrovision Copy protection and it only protects the Video the audio isn"t Protected....

    you get it on rental tapes, i used to knwo what it wasfor but i forgot, maybe not copy protection but it does have a purpose....
