ok am looking at the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 Surround Sound PCI Card here
and the M-AUDIO Revolution 5.1 here here

they have the same ports, both pci,20$-30$ difference in price, the difference i guess is the 5.1/7.1, does that describe the amount of channels it can run, cause i have a cheap 10 dollar sound card and I'm running a 5 speaker surround sound on it? My question is really the difference between 5.1/7.1, if you see any other differences please mention it.

They seem to be basically the same card, the 5.1 description even says the card is based off the 7.1 card.

Personally I would just get the cheaper card because I can't see a difference between the two.

yeah i went went with the 5.1, i can run 8 speakers on it (so far!!),
i didn't see any difference either, except the 5.1/7.1 they could mean nothing though so whatever
