i turned on the sata port 3 in bios . put back the connectors in the order i found them from factory.
it all is working now. i have both harddrives and both dvd drives back.
wow that was a really easy fix..
i hope this is the last two question on this but we will see

1 Do I need to change the boot up on this new drive it is list last in bios menu after usb ports?

2 How can i get the boot screen to stop so i can take a pic .There is something that caught my eye. i would like to post it and see if there is a concern.

    edit spelling
    thanks again.....

Stop the POST screen? Go to the BIOS and turn on 'halt if no keyboard'. Then restart the PC and unplug the keyboard. The PC should go "Keyboard error!" and stop in its tracks.

can do that in the boot sequence in the bios. hit the "pause" key to stop the posting.

1:Turn on (or restart) your computer.
2:When the blue DELLâ„¢ logo is displayed, watch for the F2 prompt to appear.
3:Once the F2 prompt appears, press <F2> immediately.

Changing Boot Sequence for Future Boots
1:Enter system setup (see Entering System Setup).
2:Use the arrow keys to highlight the Boot Sequence menu option, then press <Enter> to access the menu.
NOTE: Write down your current boot sequence in case you want to restore it.
3:press the up- and down-arrow keys to move through the list of devices.
4:press the spacebar to enable or disable a device. Enabled devices have a number assigned to them; disabled devices have no number assigned.
5:press <U> or <D> to move a selected device up or down the list.

i haven't read the hole forum, what i say might have been repeated

this one is the one you should go for
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0648544
i encounter more problems with segate then WD, as for spec's the WD,: is SATA, its DTR (data transfer rate)is much greater then that of the segate, the segate is running the old version ATA

find out if your computer can run SATA, sata is very new so some old pc wont support it

the three things you should look for when HD shopping is
    1) size and price, dollar/euro per gig should be at no more then 80cents a gig,
    2) brand, don't buy used HD off ebay by the way
    3) SATA/ATA, and size of the physical drive(will it fit in desired chasity)

THIS DRIVE YOU POSTED IS THE BIGGEST RIP OFF EVER, WHO? WOULD BUY IT, good for you asking

i guess by itself the information is not overwhelming.i see it now..
this pic shows what caught my eye i don't remember seeing the non raid disc in green letters on previous boots.
i guess it was there. port 0 is the main drive i believe .

the last thing is there an better order to boot the drives up in? or it does not really matter.

    the pause button worked excellent!!
    thanks

try changing the drive cables around so that the wd is on port 1 & the 2 rom drives are on ports 2 & 3 as long as the bios sees them. other then that it shouldn't matter. don't buy the drives from dell as they don't make them, get them from your local computer store or online.

Non-RAID disk is nothing to worry about, you don't need to use RAID in your position anyway.
