Apologies if this is straight forward to many but can someone please list the steps involved in disabling an onboard NIC in BIOS?

I'm running an XP machine so would just disabling the LAN in Network Connections work the same or do I need to do it through BIOS?

Don't want to mess anything up before installing a new card in one of the PCI slots.

    Thanks in advance.

disabling it in windows will work too instead of in bios.
