divx on vista

    hi, i have just bought a new lap-top which has windows vista as the operating system. the problem i have is that i cant play divx movies on it. does anyone have a solution to this .is there a media player i can use or do i need to convert my divx movies to another format.

    You would need to install DivX or a compatible decoder (such as ffdshow). For full DivX playback (menus, chapters, etc.), then I guess you need their player?

    you can use vlc player but you need the newest version of the player and that is 0.8.6c i had the same problem, just got a new dell laptop, and it is running vista basic. i had a earler version of vlc and it would not play the movie file got sound but no video, but after the newer version no problems at all, hope that helps good luck
