Surely the quality of the dvds isn't causing the error as I can use these fine on my other pc?

trust us, they're not the best quality. your burner's firmware is up to date, your Nero log looks fine, presuming the DMA stuff is sorted (must admit, the error "DMA-driver error, CRC error" is a new one on me and does sound like it could be contributing to your problem, but googling for it hasn't turned up much, so far it would appear this is a Nero 7 specific error), however apart from that, the only thing looking suspect is the discs..

it was gving the dma error when I was using ridiscs too, so it doesn't seem like its the discs but I'll try some different ones today.

Logical Unit Communication CRC Error (Ultra-DMA/32)

    Is that any help?

Sorry to jump in, I'd figured my buddy creaky the Nero-nator should be able to help you tweak through this. However, I just want to throw in one more concern; the above error means that your burner is going down south. Try to disconnect the cable from the back of your burner, then plug it in back on. Make sure everything is placed in properly and tight. Try to burn again, if the above message/error "KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR" display again, then unfortunately it may be your burner that is going bad/south.

Also, it looks like you don't have any "existing drivers" at all. You should at least have one or two "under" existing drivers. Example for reference below:

    File 'Drivers\ASPI32.SYS': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=16877 bytes, created 7/16/2002 7:53:02 PM
    File 'Drivers\PXHELP20.SYS': Ver=2.03.18a, size=20576 bytes, created 10/8/2005 7:33:40 PM (Prassi/Veritas driver for win 2K)

Below is an example/successful burned log, taken from mine that I'd recently burned. You can compare mine to yours and you'll notice the "Existing drivers" that I'd mentioned.

Im going to keep this thread linked in my homepage. It shows a good log of what NVIDA drivers look like, and the nexts logs shows what nero logs look like without them installed. Good work everyone!

It probably would have been better to start a new thread as this one is getting a bit long, but i will tell you what i see in your log.
I see two main problems. DMA and Media.
The DMA is OFF for this drive:
It should be listed as ON. Here is how to fix that:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

The other main part is it doesnt like your TDK media. Let me check to see if you need a firmware update for that drive. No, it is up to date, so the only other thing to do is to use some other media. Try some verbatim. Or taiyo yuden found under Sony, Maxell, or Fuji, if made in japan is on the label.
Also you are using an old Nero 7 version. The latest version is not buggy like the last couple of 7 updates, so you should be ok with an update to 7.0.8.2
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

Those are the main things wrong in that log from what i can see. You might try a slower burn at 4x, but i dont think it will help as long as you are using that TDK media.

In my reply i linked to alkohol's DMA turn on guide.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

You need to un-install the driver for that drive, and reboot system. When the pc boots back up, windows installs the driver, and it fixes the DMA. When your drive goes out of DMA mode it can switch to PIO mode. That mode uses the CPU mostly, and it is very slow. Just follow alkohol's guide (it has pictures) and that should fix it for you. (there isnt an on/off switch for the DMA) it has to be fixed the way alkohol showed in that guide.
You need to go into control panel just like the guide showed, and un-install the driver for the DVD/CD rom drive, in your case the NEC one. Once you do that and reboot, that should be all it takes to get your DMA back on. Post back if that doesnt work.

What I found useful was to change the drives to different positions on the ide channels that fixed my problem.

Ive seen stubborn DMA problems require removing the battery on the motherboard in one case to get it to come back on. I am glad you got it fixed with Ashleigh's help. Way to go Ashleigh :) Keep up the good work.
