    I agree you could have some have a hardware problem, but when that is fixed, media will be an issue.
    I could not find any 16x Teac
    However if you look at the link, you can see they use 6 or more sources for the DVDs listed.
    Some very good (Taiyo Yuden), some good (Ritek, Prodisc), some poor (CMC) and some I have never heard of.

    So when you buy Teac, you are getting potluck.
    If you shop around and watch for sales, you can get better media at a good price with few or no coasters.

    Ok, so here's my next report:
    I've replaced the IDE cable with a new one. the old one does seem to be messed up.

    I've disconnected the DVD-ROM drive and left the DVD-R (jumpered as master). Burning works fine.

    BUT - when I re-connect the DVD-ROM (jumpered as slave, using the middle connector in the IDE) I get the same error again.
    What's the deal?
    I don't have another IDE port in my MotherBoard (I have 2 ports. both are used - one for 2 HardDisks and the second is supposed to be used for the 2 DVD drives.

    Here's the log of the failed burning process:

    It's handy that this thread popped into my inbox, i've just been sent (by mistake) many 100s of CMC MAG M01 instead of the awesome RICHOJPNR03 i always buy (both look the same externally, they're Maxell 16x +R); the only reason i found out that i'd been sent subpar discs was when a couple of burns failed using the Maxell's (this never happens and i use 1000s of the Maxell RICOHJPNR03's). Checked the failed discs and was extremely annoyed to find out i'd been sent CMC MAG M01 by mistake. Luckily the supplier will take them back and send me what i asked for, and it's always possible that the supplier's not at fault, they could have been sent these useless discs by mistake.

    Grrrrr.....

    @creaky

    In my reply on 26th I also stated that CMC mags were poor quality discs and advised to slow burn to 4X but I see that advice was given in vain...poster still using same discs and burning at 16X, as did Laddyboy on the 27th.

    i very rarely comment on media these days, but these discs left me no choice; i though maybe it could be a firmware issue on my burners but i found a fair few threads over at cdfreaks and i was most surprised to find a lot of people over there calling these discs some bad names; there are apparently CMC discs that are highly thought of over there, i think they're CMC MAG E01 or AM3 (or both) but i didn't find much good stuff written about the M01's, i'm stuck with 800 of the things until the supplier takes them away to go into landfill

    For this error the cause is usually hardware related - could be wrong - but yeah I'd definitely use different media.

    Try this - kind of a pain but will help pin down the problem.
    Switch the drives - dvd-rom to master, burner to slave - switch the jumper pins too. Now try and burn - use simulation instead of doing a straight burn.
    Fails then just take out the dvd-rom and try again w/ the burner connected as slave. I'd do a simulation burn also.
    Burn either a cd or dvd - you've been getting the same error for both.

    @gwendolin

    I haven't had the chance to buy different media yet. About the burning speed - I forgot about it, but should it really matter? If the burner works fine at X16 when it's the only thing connected to the IDE cable, shouldn't it work fine at the same speed even if something else is connected to the same cable?

    Although the discs you are using say they are 16X I wouldnt advise burning at MAX speed of 16X....they are, as stated , poor quality and are prone to failing even at 4X.
    I always recommend burning at 4X even with my Verbatims, after all how much time do you actually save, Cheers.

    @glazberg - this thread is going around in circles; by all means try 4x, until you start trying the suggestions you will still be stuck in this thread instead of watching successfully burned movies; i even dropped by to add my own personal experience on these discs, ie i was suddenly having burning problems; changed the discs back to the ones i've been using (1000s of) for years and all is well again.

    you need to try 4x next and update us on your progress...

    Ok guys I guess I am having the same problem. Well the other day I bought this computer off some guy I didn't even know. Yah I know stupid right well it turns out that it has all these problems like Javascript not working I have tried everything believe me everything and then when I go to use the DVD burner/Cd Burner this message pops up DMA-driver error, CRC error go this is frustrating I don't know too much about computers and I have read this whole thread plus tons more and still it makes no sense. I have tried changing my write speed but I have been unsuccessful in doing so. I can't seem to find how. Here is the log from Nero. Please someone help me!

    Sounds like you have much more going on then meets the eye.
    You'll need to start a new thread for your problem. Makes things less confusing and forum rules.
    Try the other suggestions in this thread too - different media, check the jumper settings etc.

    Beside getting good media( which is more than recommended, but I doubt it will fix your problem since is a hardware(burner/cables...) issue, here are some fixes that worked for other people ( I don't know if this is a repeat, didn'ttake the time to read through the first 2 pages of this thread. Next time don't hijack someone else's thread, start your own like binkie said)
    This also translates into "LOGICAL UNIT COMMUNICATION CRC ERROR (ULTRA-DMA/32) (040803), which means the data can't be properly verified between the hard drive and the burner, there is poor communication. If you have a 40-pin cable, you might have to change it for a 80-pin( it might be as simple as that). Also you might have to reconfigure the 2 drives-reader and burner-(master/slave setup).

    @glazberg
    you got a new cable. Is it a 80-pin? You might need that instead of 40-pin

    I replaced the cable (don't know if it's 40 or 80 pins), and connected only the DVD burner to it. Sicne that worked, and when I tried reconnecting the other DVD drive it didn't work, I figured I don't really need the other DVD drive...

    Yeah, I know that's lame, but at least I can burn....
