    hi, Hope you're still checking this post.

    What you need; (well this is what I use)

    Firstly; copyright states (in my country) that you can only do 1 backup of any media you own (roughly speaking)

    anyway;
    a Walkman (or tape player) with a 'line out' [if no line ou is available the headphone socket could be used, but the sound quality could be cr@p.
    plug this via a cable to the 'line in' on the sound card. (easiest way to make this cable is take two sets of stereo headphones cut the ear pieces off, strip the wire back 1 cm and join red wire to red wire and the white wire to the white wire and the ground [copper bare wire] to the ground wire {should solder these all}. insulate all wires from each other)

    use Audio edit software or similar, I use Creative labs recorder.
    Press record on PC + play on Walkman
    This will record the tape to cd in WAV format normally.
    I suggest you record a few minutes first and set your sound volumes on walkman and pc.
    Turn your mobile phone off or this will interfer with the recording and if someone rings the sound will get garbled from the tape to the PC.

    I use audio edit to cut out the individual tracks/ songs and trim the ends to get rid of silences and then I convert to MP3 as this is just so much more compact, if you don't have plenty of ram you may need to record song by song instead of one entire side of the tape.
    Then just burn Audio cd in nero.

    oh, and you need to record as 'line in' or 'what u hear' on the PC or else you could be recording ambient noises... like you opening and closing the door to the room etc...
    Sometime's I've forgotten and it just wastes time

    yea, there's nothing worse than setting things up and coming back half and hour later, opening up the recorded file (which takes ages) and then realising what an idiot you've been and having to do it all over again....

    - Measure twice, cut once - this is my notto now
