I was wondering if you have to have a data plan when using a unlocked iphone or can I get a cheap plan?

 

Yes you need a plan locked or unlocked.


If you have a iphone and t-mobile you can use the t-zones hack,pay $5.99 / month for t-zones and get the $19.99 plan access,unlimited.

Nope....$5.99 is about as cheap as it gets.

 

I guess the reason why I ask is because tmobile doesnt work so good in my area. do you know a lot about unlocking iphone and stuff?

 

nrth16, you do not need a data plan for the old iPhone. The data plan is only necessary if you want to have internet wherever you go. You can still use the wi-fi though. mnrepoman is probably thinking of the new iPhone. I know a thing or two about unlocking as well. I currently have the old iPhone on T-Mobile and am using the T-Zones ($5.99) hack. running 2.0.1 firmware.
