Hello out there, this is my first post and I will be forever be indebted to the person that can help me fix this problem. For every 2 DVD's (or CD's) I try to burn, only one of them completes sucessfully. I always get an error message like "Reset Occured", and I'll be burning right after a restart so it's not like I've bogged my CPU down. I just saved one of the error logs from Nero after my last failed disc and I'm hoping someone can explain why I get this problem. I just got through reading Page 9 of this thread and going through the steps of checking my firmware, and DMA settings and all that. I even updated my firmware through the Maxell website. Anyways, sorry if I'm rambling. I'm just trying to coevr all the bases. Thanx for the help. i have nero but it doesnt burn my downloaded files so i was trying to find something else without having to buy an all new program. thats why i wanted to try the smart. plus seemed like an all in one deal, and i have a hard enough time as it is.
You can set shrink up to automatically burn with Nero or Decrypter. So in essense you're only operating one program. Both are free and here in AD. I didn't realize you were using DL files off the net. You have to convert those files to DVD compliant files before they can be burned to disc. Since you have Nero you can use NeroVision Express(NVE)3 for that.
okay guys....i tried to back up a dvd (twice) and doesnt work. I cant even play the file from my pc when i open it in fromt the file folder. windows says the extention is not recognized. what am i doing wrong. followed scuba instrutions to the "t". as far as opening my downloaded file from dvd shrink cant seem to do that either...says incountered a problem cant open file.
Hi Chad, You have got to stop using Nero EXpress. - It is attempting to get you to write you to RAM and that you cannot do. Let's use Nero Burning ROM if you are to continue to use Nero seperatly OR use DVD Shrink and allow it to control Nero "automatically". For starters, follow this guide - BURNING WITH NERO CLASSIC HINT: First, create a folder for your work on your desktop OR your HD. - Name it something that you'll be able to find. I named mine C:\All My DVD Work\\The Last Samurai sings Swami (off key). Now load your IFO, BUP and VOB files there - make sure they are in a folder named VIDEO_TS written like that (all in Caps) - some programs like DVD Shrink will make the properly named folder for you, others you must make the folder yourself - Nero needs that folder with all it's contents in order to work properly - Burning a file made by DVD Shrink. If you had used DVD Shrink to create a file on your HD you are truly in great shape. When you wish to burn, use the "File Browser" in Nero Classic (don't use Wizard), trace your path back to "All DVD Work\ \The Last Samurai sings Swami (off key)", you don't have to remember where your work is or if you need to do anymore work on it, it is completely finished, ready to go - - OK then, is everyone comfy ? Good - its now time for - - "Uncle" ScubaPete's Step by Step, Let's burn with Nero 6 Guide - First - Do not use Nero Wizard - Please follow along EXACTLY - (might even want to PRINT IT OUT, it'll make following easier, don't ya know ?) In case you're finding Nero's Burning ROM hard to find (sometimes it really is hiding (Lol). Go to "Start", "All Programs", "Nero", "Nero 6 Ultra Edition" and there you'll find "Nero Burning ROM" When you open Nero Burning ROM, you will be at the "New Compilation" window. Directly under the title "New Compilation" is a choice block to choose either DVD or CD, choose "DVD". Directly under that click on the "DVD Video Icon." Then click "New" in the upper right corner of that screen, NOT the main screen. You now are in the "DVD Video" window. In the left screen, click "VIDEO_TS". In the "File Browser" screen, 3rd from the left, trace your path to the VIDEO_TS folder, the one you made earlier holding all of your files and click on that folder. All of your VIDEO_TS files are now opened in the right screen. Click on the top file, hold down the "Shift" key and then click the bottom file thereby hi-lighting the entire column of files. Click and (holding the left mouse button down) drag the entire column of files to the open screen, second from the left and release the mouse button. Now click the icon on the task bar that shows a match on a disc, and then click "OK" and now, clear the room, stand up tall and shout out, "Burn Baby, BURN" ! One more time, let me hear you say it, "Who's your Daddy Now ???" Guess what my Friend ? You are done !!! (Wheeew, now I really need a cigarette) NOW, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ! ! Keep all fingers and toes away from Ms. Computer. Never mess with the lady when she's working - it would be hazardous to your health, you understand - Go and have your coffee, when Nero is done, she'll let you know ;-)) Enjoy your backup, Pete When looking for a guide written by a wack job, shop ScubaPete
Hey Pete, Thanks so much for your help. One thing I'm noticing though, and I can hardly believe it myself, is that I do not have "Nero Classic", and that upsets me. The Nero I have installed came with the DVD drive I'm having problems with, and after searching through all the folders in the "Ahead" directory, all I can come up with is Nero Express. I'm worried that if I install the newest version of Nero (where I get it shall remain unnamed), my drives won't be compatible. I tried installing a newer version of Nero when I had only my Memorex CD Burner, and it wouldn't let me burn a CD. It wouldn't recognize the drive. Got any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Your time means a lot.
1984rocks, In order to get it correct - you have to do a "Clean" uninstall to rid your system of all the files THEN reinstall it ~ This will help you do a "Clean" uninstall. You must use all of Nero's Clean tools in order to do the job correctly. They can all be found here: http://www.nero.com/us/631940828445001.htm General Clean tool Registry cleaner and driver cleaner InCD Clean tool When you reinstall Nero 6 DO NOT install InCD OR if you do, turn it off in msconfig (better to not install it) it can and does cause problems with other proggys. Load Nero up from here: http://www.ahead.de/us/nero6-ultraedition.php When installing and uninstalling programs it's a good practice to complete the operation with a PC reboot. It only takes a minute, help it can, hurt it won't. Whenever you're uninstalling a program, it's a good practice to reboot your PC (even if it's not called for) to help "Flush" the program out. By the same token, when you install a program, it's a good practice to reboot your PC (even though it doesn't call for it) to help the "New" guy "Settle" it in. Now that we've done that (I know it's a "Pain" but when it's done correctly the first time and all the steps are followed then we don't have problems AND we don't have to do it all over again. IF YOU DO ALL OF THE STEPS (and didn't skip just one step that "couldn't possibly" make a bit of difference) THEN, WE SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO - YIPPIEEE ! ! Now let's see how we do ~ Do a run through and report back with your results ~ We'll be waiting ~ Pete
i need to be able to burn .iso's that are bigger capacity than a cd-r. is there any program that can trick my drive into burning a dvd-r so i can fit gigs on a cd? or is there any other solution that any1 has to this problem? i kno theres something out there that can do this. PLEEZ HELP!!
Hey Pete, I followed your instructions to the T. I installed the newest version of Nero WITHOUT installing InCD. So far, out of 4 DVD's, only 1 has completed sucessfully. @ popintags, Sorry but there is no proggy than can put a DVD-r size of "Gigs" on a CD. In case you didn't know., a standard DVD holds approx 4.36GB of information and you're never going to get that on a 700MB CD disc, it's not going to happen ! At one time, I experimented with a small movie, Bruce Almighty (severely trimmed to about 3GB). I ran it through DVD Shrink (in maximum compression after using all error correcting settings) about 6 or 7 times and was able to get it to about 900MB but that was it. I suggest try a proggy called SuperDVDRipper (it is a 1-click proggy to take your compressed, quality enhanced VOB files from DVD Shrink to a SVCD, VCD or AVI then burn that to your CD. Nero has a "Mini-DVD" format that you can burn to CD and have a very good movie copy over 2 CD's. Also look into DVDToAVI as another proggy to do the same job. SuperDVDRipper http://www.voodoofiles.com/20271 Pete @ Chad, To correct your extremely low available resources, Go to, msconfig ~ Startup tab ~ Disable all, ~ Apply ~ OK ~ OK again to reboot your PC. THEN try to backup a DVD with some resources to work with. ALSO, if no one ever mentioned it to you ~ Allow your PC to work with out you in the same room. Encoding and burning Video files is extremely resources intensive. I gave you a guide to use a VIDEO_TS format, NOT an ISO. Let's try to burn VOB files and not ISO's. Remember to take all of your IFO, BUP and VOB files and have them in a folder named VIDEO_TS (written like that as it's case sensitive.). Though an ISO Image is as exact as one could wish, again, it is labor intensive and we're going to go a bit easier on your system until we can get you up and running. Since you're not using the guide I typed for you, what guide are you using and what settings have you been using for Target DVD size ? Again Chad, you're writing too fast, that alone would account for disc failures. DO NOT WRITE AT 8X, WRITE at 4X. We discussed this, you need to do it. IMPORTANT: Remind me again, what brand media are you using ? I addressed the importance of using the correct media and according to your log, your burner doesn't much like what you're using. Again, What media are you burning too ? Let's check to see if we have a working ASPI layer - ASPICHK download http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...nguage=English+US&filekey=aspichk.exe&sess=no Pete
my situation is i have a modded xbox but i recently lost my hard drive so i cant store games anymore i can ust play burnt ones. and not very many game .iso's will fit onto a cd-r so i need to burn them to dvd-r but i dont have a dvd burner. i can successfully burn backup copies of my games under 700MB but most games arent that small so i would like to be able to make some dvd-r's..if it does happen to b impossible what should i do for a dvd-rom drive? whats the cheapest one i could find online to do the job for me? id rather have a prog that can do it but if it doesnt exist then refer me to some good dvd-r drive so i can do it. like i said i wouldnt be burning dvds with it becuase i burn them to cd-r on two disk format n then play them on my xbox. but someone must have the solution im lookin for!!!
Your only solution is to buy a Dvd burner. You can buy them for 60.00-100.00 or so. If needed you can get an external enclosure and put the internal burner in that and hook it up thru your USB or Firewire ports. As far as brands, I'm a Plextor man, LiteOn and Pioneer also make good burners.
I use DVD Decrypter to rip my movies to my Hard Drive. Next I use DVD Shrink to shrink to size before I use Decrypter again to burn to blank media. My question is this: After using Decrypter to burn, is there any reason to do a deep analysis with Shrink or is this redundant? The reason I ask is because after ripping with Decrypter I have been doing a deep analysis and then max smoothness. I hope this makes sense. Thanks to anyone who responds.
@TMO, Redundant - Exceeding what is needed or normal No, I personally don't think so. I want and need a quality backup. Why bother having something second-class when something much closer to the original is easily obtainable. Deep Analysis encodes your video in 2 passes instead of 1, to achieve a superior end result and the quality enhancements (Maximum Smoothness or Maximum Sharpness) slows down recoding, and adjusts it so that again, you have the best copy possible. As a matter of fact, using the quality settings in DVD Shrink allows you to achieve a much higher quality copy than many of the $$$$ programs on the market today. Quality always takes time, so, the choice is yours. Pete
Thanks Mr. Scuba, Just wanted to make sure and get that warm and fuzzy that I wasn't doing extra work for nothing. So far I have been happy with all of my finished products, but still wanted to make sure. Thanks!!!
