Doesn't anyone use the guides before posting "how-to" questions?

    @ watthe,

    If you would have bothered to read the text on the link BB supplied you, you would have seen the following:

    Sometimes a 4-speed transmission is a 4-speed transmission and not an automatic - In other words, you have what you have, period !

    Actually, Phillips and Maxell are well known named discs with a fairly decent reputation (except for the Maxell -R's). "Spin X," on the other hand, is a no-name media, something along the lines of, “Bob’s discs “R” Us". I suggest you try DVDIdentifier on them to sea what they really are. My guess would be something made by CMC or worse. If you want to do DVD Video work, you'll need to use a media that's "Up" the task.

    We need to use a consistently Hi-quality DVD media for our backups. Burning DVD video's isn't at all like burning CD's where almost any disc's are fine to use. Likewise, it's not like burning text files, photos, or even music to DVD's. Burning DVD video requires a consistently Hi-quality dye application over a good composite disc and believe it or not, not that many media meet those requirements. The following media meet our criteria for a good DVD video discs and they are;! Phillips, Sony, TDK, HP, "Branded" RiData G03's, Ritek G04 and G05's (not the 01's or the 02's), Verbatim DataLife, Verbatim DataLife Plus and media boasting "Advanced Metal AZO" BUT, it must say "Advanced METAL AZO", this indicates a superior dye and dye application on a good composite disc. Other discs such as Memorex, "Great AZO", and Princo are, in a word, crap. As a general rule, the majority of discs manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, Mitsubishi, RICOH are good bets. only those Ritek named above are to be trusted the rest should be avoided. Look closely at those discs we recommended, you will see some dye types not listed by us. Those are poor risks even though the same company makes them. Prices online from SuperMediaStore.com, Meritline.com OR Newegg.com have gotten Ritek G04 starting at about a $ .36 (USD) a disc - and just recently, a "Super Sale" had 100 Taiyo Yuden discs, 4X for $.25 ea.(USD). An added PLUS, the above online stores all have an excellent return policy.

    Don’t for get to download and run DVDIdentifier (FREE), to sea exactly what you're buying:

    FYI, should you be in the market for a DVD burner in the future, avoid HP and Memorex DL, 16X drives as they have both had numerous complaints.

    Cheers,

    Pete

    You are so true but what gets me is that some people don't even read the instructions that comes with the software or hardware. I never claim to know everything but I do know enough when all else fails read the instructions.

    @PirateDan,

    Yes it always good to read the directions.

    But remember, when all else fails, [bold]SHOP SCUBA PETE!!![/bold]

    hehehe

    Anyway, the guides here at aD are great, the people are great, and the read is always informative. But what really keeps me coming back is the fact that every now and then, I can help out too. It wasn't that long ago that I was forgetting to read the directions, or to do a search...

    I actually am thinking about writing my own guide, but it seems like aD has a guide on everything I know already :(

    Enough of this... I just want to let all know how much you are appreciated, and how much I love this site.

    @ LOCOENG,

    That's in your hormones. All young males from age 16 to 40, toss out all receipts, tags and destructions.

    Why ?

    Cause we don't need'em. (Silly sod)

    NEWS FLASH ! !

    At age 40, or there-abouts, we finally become wise enough to toss everything in the box or bag the stuff came in. THEN, if the stuff doesn't fit / work, we give it to our Wife / Girlfriend (don't confuse the 2 :( and we allow them to vent their wrath on the poor salesclerk and get us the correct things.

    Life gets better after 40.

    The above would be wise words from de ole' Man :D)~

    Cheers,

    Only eight more short years, and I can stop throwing away those directions. Until then I will continue to throw them away and come here when I've hit a wall. LOL

    I want to say hello and I'm new.....yes I have read some guides from here and have been very well pleased with my results. I think all new members should spend time reading the guides and tutorials before posting as most all questions are answered already. If it's important...study up a bit. One question, could there be a sticky post at the beginning of this newbie thread that lists 5 or 6 guides that should be mandatory reading, ie like scubapetes listing of good DVD blank media that works and what is crap? I have found all my answers so far just by reading.....keep up the good work aD and I'll be around.

    Hello nofragile and welcome to AD

    As you stated, there are many useful resources here at your fingertips. If half as many people would read/lurk a little before posting, the confusion and multiposting of the same questions would be radically reduced.

    In addition to reading all the guides and tutorials there is also the search function to aid in your persuit of the answers. To answer the question of the sticky...most threads often become stickied after they recieve so many quality (or not) posts.

    Please keep reading and don't hesitate to ask questions or even answer them...we are all here to help.

    Hi,
    I've been following ScubaPete's guides for many occasions. I've used his guide to successfully burn numerous DVDs..however, I've run into a problem after trying to decrypt a Yoga DVD.

    After using DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD info to the HD, I tried opening the file using DVD Shrink. When I do this, I'm greeted by this error message that says something like incorrect DVD heriarchy or some crap like that. What could be the problem?

    The DVD is a korean DVD, however, it's an all region DVD that hasn't given me any problems..

    Any help would be appreciated.

    @JJYKIM

    The exact wording of the error message could prove useful.

    @vinalcape

    Here is your VobBlanker guide(s): http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides.htm

    @JJYkim

    That error is due to sony's new arcoss protection. The simplest solution would be to Download the 21 day free trial version of AnyDVD, set DVD Decryter to ElbyCDIO->elaborate bytes in tools,settings,I/O tab and rerip.
