OK..About a week & a half ago, I installed an FTP program (Smart FTP) off of Download.com. Didn't like it all that much & uninstalled it. Ever since then, when I try to download any file off of the internet it gets to 99% & then the download box disappears, never downloading the file to my PC. I have tried turning off my antivirus program, changing settings in IE to no avail. I'm at my wits end. I'm convinced that the FTP program I had installed caused this & changed a setting somewhere on my PC. My OS in Win XP SP2. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

im no expert, but what i would do is uninsall the program and see if that works... if not i would just use firefox... if you still need a ftp program just use FlashFXP i use it with no issues

I did uninstall the FTP program. I think it left something behind after uninstall causing the issue. Also, I would love to use Firefox, but I can't download it.

wow, I would say run a virus/spyware check, but again, you might have to download them... If you have a decent spyware client, try running that. It may be able to pick up on whatever it is left over.

Also, I would try redownloading the ftp program. See if it goes past 99%. Then if it does, try downloading something else... If it downloads, you could always try uninstalling it again.

I did a spyware scan last night (AdAware, Spybot, Spyware Doctor, Windows Defender)as well a a full antivirus scan (AVG Professional) & nothing came up. I'll try redownloading the FTP program when I get home & let ya know. Any other ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Tried redownloading FTP program & same result..download hangs @ 99%. The strange thing is that I have no problem downloading updates through my antivirus & spyware programs or buying & downloading music through itunes. Is it possible a file in IE is corrupt causing a problem.

I'm not to sure to tell you the truth. Go to the program file where it was actually installed and delete it. Maybe there's a file hanging around in there.
