This is a hypothetical question but I was wondering whether it would work in real life.

If I downloaded a blu-ray rip (which I may be wrongly assuming could be an avi file), would I be able to put it on my Data Stick and play it on my PS3 which is linked up through the Hi-Def functionality.

I don't have a Blu-Ray burner and was wondering whether this would be a way round it

Any thoughts and opinions would be welcome

well you would be wrong on the blu-ray being a avi, most likley it would be a mkv! and you would have to have a least a 5gb stick if they make them. i think they go in 1gb 2gb 4gb (6gb maby), 8gb 16gb, but i know it can be done, good luck
