    Hi guys
I read the first and last two pages of this thread... so if someone said it already...oh well!

For 95% of the videos I have downloaded, "DownloadHelper" extension for Firefox did it for me.

Then I came across this video and it stumped me...
    http://www.consciousmedianetwork.com/members/drunvalo.htm

So... opened my handy dandy tool box and using Filemon from sysinternals.com , found the cache file Firefox was saving the video to.
-I let the video download completely and then tried to copy the file to another folder. File was locked! (If I closed the browser window, the cache file disappeared!)
-So next tool... used "unlocker" (try majorgeeks.com or google it) to make a copy of the file, even though it was locked by the application.
-The file did not have a file extension but it can be figured out probably with Gspot video appliance.

    Voila! Got 'er Done!

A little easier than going through all those decoding gibberish, but my hat's off to you for being persistent!

    Peace and Blessings Ya'All!

you guys, i've said it before and i'll say it again:

I HAVE THE SOLUTION. THE SOLUTION IS BITRECORDER.

it's what i used to help xKAZUx.
it's free, super easy to use, and downloads any video you watch online.
what it does is "sniff" the URLs that are associated with the streaming video you're playing.

So take YouTube for example. When you go to YouTube and watch one of their videos, the player is embedded on the page, but the file isn't located there. In reality, the file is actually located somewhere else. The page is listed with a channel/account number, and so when a video is uploaded to their site they store it with an associated number attached. When the video is called to be played, the page plays the source name and voila, you have streaming audio/video.

WHAT'S AWESOME ABOUT THIS SETUP IS:

    1) this means that a program can be developed that can detect the streaming URL
    2) if we can detect it, we can record it
    3) there's a free program that does both of the things listed above. that program is called BitRecorder.

you guys, seriously, THE SOLUTION IS BITRECORDER.
i've used other sites before to download stuff like MySpace music (websites like: File2HD.com; Vixy.net; KeepVid.com), but nothing works as great for nabbing hard to get videos like BitRecorder does.

    try it out.
it's what enabled me to help xKAZUx, with her query above.
i didn't do anything. all i did was start BitRecorder and then go to the page she linked. the program shows you all the URLs that are associated with the video! all you have to do is look for the link that ends with a common video format (like ".mp4" or ".flv", etc) and you've found your link!

but hey, even if you're not a computer guru, that's okay.
BitRecorder is a "recorder" in that right when it finds the source, it downloads it the moment your computer starts streaming the video.
it does all of the work for you!

the only thing i'd say to do (just for sake of ease) would be, before starting the program, select the "options" part of the menu in the upper left hand corner and change the download directory.
by default it is placed at:

    "C:/BitRecorder"

This setting is best changed to:

    "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\"

[with "administrator" being whatever your account name is]

If you don't change this directory, it makes a folder in your Local hard drive and is, to be completely honest, rather awkward and unless you know where to look (and are willing to all the time, after your downloads), retrieving the videos out of here is an unnecessary pain.

Anyways, I hope this helps some.

    Take care,

    -adamryan

Try adding to the end of the file name ".flv" or ".swf"
Sometimes this specifies the file properties and makes programs like Super work smoother.

If you're still wanting these videos, Andy, BitRecorder does the trick for you.
I don't know which videos you want but I just went to that page and look:

    http://218.60.16.16/1966d445576/020...758E061683C35-868C-92F1-0F92-A2B10C7F8AE9.flv

I just started downloading that video. I doubt that's the one you were talking about when you posted your comment over a year ago, but still. This will serve to help any future searchers.

Hi, I am trying all night to get the swf video from this website and convert to .avi, .mov, or another format for editing purposes...
    http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3191723
Also, I went and found the same video on this site:
    http://www.edenbodyworks.com/video/nightline_vid.html

For some reason, I cannot get the video..I tried the firefox method of going into page info and saving the embedded file, but it comes up empty and unable to play in the Flash Player...what am I doing wrong? Please help...
    Thanks!

    Noob,

    1) http://www.filedropper.com/jasminelawrencethebigideaappearance

    You're welcome.

    2) All you have to do is use Bit Recorder. Google it. It's free, and it enables you to download any streaming video. So go download it, install it, and read the most recent posts on this thread. It'll explain how the program works and some tips to make it work smoother.

I did this one for you for free, though, since I liked the story in the video. =]

With BitRecorder, it detects where the video is steaming from and then downloads the file for you. That EDEN BODY WORKS video was being hosted here:

    http://www.edenbodyworks.com/video/nightline_vid.flv

    See? It's simple.

TIP: When downloading giant video files [400 MBs +], change your directory to an external hard drive or 1 GB flash drive (if you have one). How to do this with Bit Recorder is to:

Select "File", in the top left hand corner
    Select "Options"
Go to where it says "Save to" and change it from a desktop directory (for example) to an external HD or thumb drive directory. This will keep your computer running at an optimum speed during download. =]

    you're welcome. =]

There is a public domain political video I just found and I know the person in it. I have been trying to copy/download it with several different programs and they all failed. When I checked the info it didn't show any embedded object.

    Here's the URL:

    http://www.livingroomcandidate.org/commercials/1956/lena-washington

It also provides code so it can be shared on another website:

    <object width="434" height="370"><param name="movie" value="http://www.livingroomcandidate.org/flash/player.swf?id=3964"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.livingroomcandidate.org/flash/player.swf?id=3964" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="434" height="370"></embed></object

When I did a "save as" on "http://www.livingroomcandidate.org/flash/player.swf?id=3964" (which I copied from the code), I got a video, but not the 20 second commercial. It was a 0 second copy of the very beginning. Does anyone know how I can copy/download the full 20 second video?

    Thanks,

    Rick

    @adamryan:

    Hi there,
it seems that you are a real specialist for the Bitrecorder-Tool !
But I also think that you are a little bit peeved, because you are doing the whole work for all the noobs here ;o)
I'm such a noob too...(
I tried to get a video on this page here by using the Bitrecorder... but it didn't work ! I don't know if I'm too stupid or if it really doesn't work generally ?!

Do you think you can help me out of here ???

    Thanks and Greetz,

    Kai

    Here:

    http://www.filedropper.com/1_236

Its format is .FLV, so either download a player that can read those types of file (the BEST free one is called VLC Player [VideoLAN]), or convert it to a diff type. I use FormatFactory (free download as well, i think.)

    Kai,

Which video do you want? The one from Everest, the Redwoods, The Great Wall, Rio De Janeiro, or Matterhorn at Sunrise?
