Evening all, I recently acquired a Dreambox 500C with dw1.6.5 image installed. In the flat i live in, we have a cable going from the wall to the tv and we pick up about 16 channels (looks like the basic chorus package), but we don't pay for anything. it was just set up like that when we moved in. I connected the cable that was in the tv to the dreambox and hooked up a scart from the box to the tv. It's finding the cable receptions (transponders?) but when it does a scan it can't find any channels. Would anyone have any idea why it isn't finding any channels or services? Thanks for your help! Andrew
@Rozbev I can hope to guide you here a little. Inside the dreambox there are some folders same as the folders on your PC and to get to look and enter info into these folders you need to have the dreambox connected to your PC router via FTP (Lan cable). One of these folders (depending on which image you have installed) needs to have the correct (Services.xml) file for your area to be able to scan for the correct frequencies. Thats just a basic explanation. Maybe someone local to you reading this thread could help you out on this wanted file (I'm in UK) jbvid
ok thanks for helping me out! how would i hook it up to my pc then? i have wireless broadband at home.. cheers!
Hi If you have broadband thats great but you will also need a router unless your wireless broadband has any spare LAN RG45 (Local Area Network) outputs. Then a LAN 'Crossed' cable of suitable length to go between the W/Less B/B or Router and the dreambox. jbvid
Hi jb, sorry I didnt answer, had to go out last night. I have a router at home that provides my wireless broadband. I'm pretty sure there's a spare LAN output. So would I just connect the dreambox to it and my pc will recognize it?
Yes to connecting to it but No to PC recognizing it. You will need to google for some 'Dreambox forums' and maybe have to register to download suitable software to make an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) connection. Dreambox Control Center, and Dreambox Edit are two of the best. You will need to spend a fair bit of time on these forums reading and maybe asking a few questions as the Dreambox is quite a specialised box and has quite a steep learning curve. jbvid
ah right well i'm at work at the moment so can't do much about it. i should have time tomorrow afternoon to try and do something about it. thanks for your help. it's a shame because the guy who sold it to me put and image on and assured me it would work without any problems :-(
