I've been burning away quite happily for some time now but all of a suuden my combi drive will not recognise any DVD's i put in it? it recognises CD's ok but not DVD's? I've tried to update my firmware some time ago but ran into problems but it still seemed to work fine after i sorted that. I have a NEC ND-2510A. I clean the drive on a regular basis with a len cleaner disc, but now it won't even recognise that?

Not sure what to do next? Can anyone help?

Does Device Mgr. tell you everything is ok?
    No yellow marks?

I had a look in device manager and everything seems ok.

I've had to do a system restore previously when having problems burning, so i'll maybe give that a shot and see how it goes.

A lens cleaner disc? I've never seen a reason to clean a lens except for a DVD player in a very dirty environment (such as a kitchen where airborne oil molecules can be wafted upwards with steam vapor.) No computer should ever be in a dirty environment. Lens cleaners are often gimmicks likely to do more damage than good, especially if used regularly.

Go into Device Manager, find the NEC, right click and choose Uninstall, reboot and Windows will reinstall it. That may do it.

That antique might just be tired.

I did the system restore and its burning away great!

I do agree, its time for a new burner......i'm going for the Pioneer 111D (OEM)......i've been told its real work-horse and gets through loads of burns with no coasters!

As for the lens cleaner issue, i was having read errors when burning and was advised by a 'senior member' to try a lens cleaner.......all credit to them, it did solve the read error issue for a good while.
