    i did wht u said but now it says it dosent detect any drives on the ide.
    but they are all connected!

    what ide cables do you have 80wire 40pin or 40wire 40pin??

    on ide1, is the master drive on the middle connector or the end connector? on ide2, is the slave drive on the middle connector & the master on the end connector??

    It sounds like your system got loaded on your D drive. Try installing the D drive only in the master position on IDE 1 and see if it boots. You did have a working PC before you changed things didn't you?? Your system files have to be somewhere.

    then i putr the hd on ide 2 or just let the computer boot with only the cd drives in ide 1?

    [bold]hallelujah!!![/bold]i fixed it!!!!! it was the damn ide cables!

    one problem though when it boots it says disk boot error somthing about an ethernet controller.

    in the bios, see in the boot sequence if the netcard is there & disable it in the boot sequence

    at the bottom of the screen of the bios it tells you how to change things as bioses are different in boards & versions of bioses.

    i have an award bios and i try to configure but there is no ethernet stuff to disable.

    its an old motherboard plus heres the problem:

    i put in the win xp disk and it says hd not found

    does the bios see the hd? what is the make & model# of the motherboard?

    the award is the bios not the motherboard

    take a look in the bios under advanced bios features in bootup sequence to see if netcard is there & disable it.
