I flashed my U10A to the DRU500A, I think the main advantage is that it is easier to find firmware upgrades.
i'd be happy to test out some of those datawrite 4x discs on mine if you wouldnt mind sending me one.
nope, in the U.S. oh well. give the riteks a try, i bought one from a guy on ebay for like $5 just to test. i suppose shipping to the U.K. might be more tho.
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/ They should do the X4 Ritek there.Or alternitvely http://www.cdr-by-mail.co.uk/acatalog/CDR_By_Mail_Special_Offers_3.html#ritek1xdvdr
picked up new dru 500ax and im impressed every disc i have tried worked which would'nt work before on u10 - 500
Anyone have a DW-U10A and think the DRU-500 looks better? I have a DRU-500AX and prefer the OEM bezel. I noticed the two appear to be interchangable. Here is a link to the new bezel if you don't know what I mean. http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=27-131-208-04.JPG/27-131-208-05.JPG/27-131-208-06.jpg
so, I have recentely purchased a DW-U10a and (obviously) flashed it into a DRU500a... I have just few question: 1) overburning is not supported? why? 2) what means "Error - INVALID FIELD IN PARAMTER LIST (052600)"? Nero CD Speed, label this as an error occurring during it's tests...
I have fairly recently purchased a U10a with firware version 1.1d it burns dvd-r (Zero defex - Ritek) with no problems what so ever. My main concern is for future updates... is it still a one way street flashing the drive to believe its a 500a ?? Sony has quite clearly told me they will not support this drive (U10a) as it's up to whoever sold it ! Any comments greatly appreciated.. as I'm in two minds to flash or not & don't want to break something that is working... what further updates could benifit me though for flashing to the 500a ? Cheers Ps. My original Ricoh 5125a has now been with Ricoh for 7 weeks due to a scis target error on +r discs only not +rw !! great service hey !
back again.. I've just been searching the web and found this site.... http://www.ued.janis.or.jp/~jabawock/down.html It's in Japanese but there is definitly a link to convert the 500a back to a U10a (1.1c) has anyone else tried this ! (assuming the original conversion did not work) Cheers
I recently bought the dwu-10a unit and am having trouble with win xp. The unit is reconized but is unable to find any drivers to load with the unit itself... Did anyone get a driver disk or have any suggestions for me. Please Im desparate!
Guys, I flashed my new DW-U10A to the DRU500A, and upgraded firmware to 2.0f. However, now when I try to open Nero, the PC completely crashes. It literally restarts. Nero worked fine prior to the upgrade! The DVD is connected to my Abit IC7-G via the std. UATA IDE port, and there is nothing else on that chain. Also, Sandra sees the DVD drive as a Sony DRU500A now, and I can read my Encarta DVD. What gives?
I may have solved it myself. As a DW-U10A you don't need to disable UDMA on the IDE channel. However, as a DRU500A Nero crashes if you don't. Hmmmmmmmmm
Try this file that is on the jap site mentioned above. I dont take any responsibility if you FUBAR your drive converting it back to a U10a but if you decide to try it let the rest of us know how you get on by replying to this thread. http://isweb44.infoseek.co.jp/computer/type-ive/files/500A_to_10A[1.1c].zip
OK, after the step-back, hot do I get the FW to 1.1d? I think I may ask the dealer for a refund, or an upgrade to the true DRU-500A, and the DW-U10A needs to look exactly as before.
Bob, all you need to do is find a firmware upgrade for the U10a to revision F. Have you tried the prog in the zip I posted to flash your drive back or did you use another?
